Replying To THEMOLE2:  "RESULT
Westmeath 8-18 V Down 1-04

Just let that result sink in for a moment....!! Speechless.."
Does anyone know what sort of a team Down put out for this?
Just wondering if they fielded a 2nd string team to keep their 1st string team intact for the Celtic Challenge after the earlier administrative slip-up, might explain the scoreline.

I was reading too much into it then, Down seem to be missing a few though even to my semi-educated eye but definitely couldn't be described as 2nd string

Maybe just a case of a very good bunch this year for Westmeath

Down only beat Tyrone by one point- they are way out of their depth in this competition. Kildare hammered them 3 weeks ago , who ever entered them in this competition has seriously over estimated Down's very limited ability-smell the coffee.

Wait till you see what happens to the Down team in the Celtic challenge as it's going to get a walloping as well.

I understand the concept of entering both, but the spade work wasn't done at U14 or U16 the last few years to have the jigsaw pieces in place for this.

We need a bigger playing base and by all accounts we've 50 plus youngsters going to the U14 development squads and that is a good thing,

Carlow 3-22 Down 1-07 another waste of time, effort and money- not to mention possibility of injury during exams.

Another hammering today against Kildare, managed to score a single point - this will help their confidence no end.

For their development Down are probably better remaining focussed on the Celtic Challenge with the offer of more games at their level and quality.......too much of an ask to try do both with the playing pool we have.......

Led to believe Down may not be able to partake in the Celtic Challenge as players who play in the Leinster league are ineligible to play Celtic Challenge.

That has always been the case.

We've messed up big time this year at this level and lessons need learned.

When Kildare are putting up big scores like that against a team "developing" for the last number of years then we need an inward look at where we're going.

U16's also taking big beatings I heard.
