There was a superb article in yesterday's Irish Examiner about Graham. Really insightful and gives us an insight into what to expect from the Laochra Gael programme on Wednesday. He tells us how he feels let down by Harnan and Callaghan as they resigned as selectors when he rejoined the panel in '11. Also gives a great account of the trainjng ground incident in Páirc Tailteann with Coyler and Sheppard. Should be an excellent watch. What a legend Gero is. Without a shadow of a doubt the best athlete/footballer in his day. His passion on the field was 2nd to none, he may be called controversial and aggressive but this only fueled his passion for Meath football & i glad he never curtailed it. He knew the true meaning and pride in wearing the jersey. I only hope our lads were watching it last night, i think the airing of it came at the right time. Was quite an emotional watch if im honest. Definitely. Breaks me heart to be honest looking at where we are now. Next in line for management in a few years ....no b*st attitude. Not alone did Graham have intense passion in the jersey but his overall level of skill was unbelievable, even when being marked very tightly by Pat Holmes v Mayo in 96 his sheer bust of speed and footwork in keeping a ball in play was superb, should actually be in every coaching video. However his ability to field the ball in a ruck of players and break free that made him a real Meath footballer of the old school as well as being an ultra modern one. Graham was a class act on the field. Got us out of a tight spot on many an occasion. I see they where kind to Louth and didn't show the goal he scored against in the death in Navan. Maybe I missed his genius on the pitch and I probably did, maybe I just got used to his and the teams high standards back then. I always preferred Giles if you looking for No nonsense player as people alluded above, Giles was class act in that regard. And was the provider of quality ball too Ollie and graham on many an occasion. I remember, I would say it was one of Graham last games against the dubs and he was a cool as the breeze sipping water on the side line just before game when everyone had taken up there positions. then cool as you like takes up his position. I don't think anyone in the country can deny he was a gem of a footballer to watch and his abrasive character only endeared him more to the Meath followers. What amazed me about the program was stuff I remember about him playing that did not even get a mention due to so much other stuff to talk about from his football career. If my memory is right he was man of the match in both the 1993 and 1994 matches against Dublin despite being a young player and Meath losing both games narrowly. (This was back in the day when year in year out Meath v. Dublin was, along maybe with Tipp v. Cork in hurling, the biggest rivalry in domestic Irish sport). With the controversy's in 2 International rules series they showed there was no mention of the Hassel he got in another series against the Aussies when one of their huge lads hit him. Also I remember hearing people saying in 2009 he, having initially deciding not to make himself available for Meath squad changed his mind and made it clear he would come back if asked but that Eamonn O'Brien did not want him back. I think him keeping up duleek was a great achievement couple years ago and one that wasn't properly recognised. I do still think he has a bit to learn. But what I can't understand is why he hasn't been asked to get involved in 17 20 backroom ? Also he has excellent man management skills, as anyone will know he actually is quite soft spoken with young lads in particular, never once refused a autograph or a pic. Would he suit current management?
