Future of GAA in Leitrim

(Oldest Posts First)

So not only are Headquarters interested in the concept of the super 8. It would appear that some clubs in leitrim are interested in something similar when it comes to our under 17 competition in 2018. Eight teams of 15 a side. This would allow for 120 young men playing at this grade as oppised to what was finally agreed of two groups of eight which allows for 208 young men playing. Posters go on and on about county board. The very sad fact of the matter is there are clubs in leitrim living in cloud cuckoo land. Even if we did have a super county management, clubs will have to wake up and smell the roses. GAA in leitrim is dying on its feet and some of the excuses to be regraded are genuinely pathetic and definately in the interest of sport.

Revealed: Here is how much your county spent on its teams in 2017 - with Dublin only the second biggest spenders

'Every county receives a base payment of €175,000 from revenue generated from media and sponsorship rights.'

Leitrim's income was 299k of which Croke Park provided over 60% ... Sponsorship brings in a further 25k we are being told. So 99k raised internally within the county? Jeasus some Leitrim clubs are raising that amount themselves. It's no wonder we are where we are.

But that only explains what co board(we the clubs) put towards the senior team. There is near a million in revenue taken/spent annually by co board.
To be fair they work hard but not most efficient crew, with so many of our Leitrim Diaspora remaining untapped.

If you were a wealthy ex pat from Leitrim and saw the current state of affairs would you feel compelled to donate to the cause?

Now is your time to support the County Teams by supporting the Annual Draw.

Depending on the Diaspora is a fallacy. Most of them have families to support and are committed to societies and clubs in their adopted countries.

Up Leitrim

The Diaspora were willing to put huge money into Leitrim football but politics killed that. So no point saying it's fallacy. The standards that appease us are very low to be fair. Even should we secure3 wins in the last 3 games it hardly means a successful campaign. The discontent among the players is fora all to see. Conor Cullen and Darren Carberry dropped from the panel recently didn't reflect well on management also. But of course we want the county to succeed.
