Tyrone VS Dublin

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This could be a long long night for Tyrone. Has Harte not learned from his mistakes that ultra defensive football will never work. They were obliterated by Dublin last year and were beat by Galway yesterday from it. Imagine Tyrone playing proper traditional attacking football, they have got great forwards like Sludden, McAllisky, Bradley, Donnelly, O'Neill etc. They would be such a better team if they had freedom to play. Has to be Harte's last season of management. Dublin look great as always think that Basquel looks to be a player for the future. Brian Fenton was fantastic against Kildare. I have to go for a Dublin win here.
Dublin 4+

Tyrone need to contest Dublin's kick outs like Kildare did very successfully. If Tyrone let Dublin have lots of possession Dublin have the game to hurt a defense first Tyrone side.

It won't be anything like the summer and expect a closer contest. I'd take a 1 point win right now! But hopefully Gavin continues to give younger players game time.

Basquel is lethal and can score for fun given the chance, he's a very accurate finisher.

I've been hearing great things about this Basquel lad jimbo, he showed a few glimpses of it on Saturday but he was let off the hook by some poor finishing when he was caught napping late on in the 1st half. He could have been looking at being subbed at half time at that point. Fair play to the lad for having a decent second half though, showed good character.
Scully is the lad that Tyrone need to be wary of. That was one of the worst misses in living memory that he produced on Saturday night but the guy has a habit of showing up in great positions. He makes some very intelligent runs and he's a good all rounder. I don't think he has the same skill levels as say a Connolly or O'Callaghan but he's a good fielder and does a lot of dirty ball work, Gavin likes these scrappers in his team.
Cast your minds back to the semi final last year and the 2 balls he caught out under the Cusack when Cluxton went long. Tyrone couldn't deal with Dublin when they stretched the play and made numerous direct runs after recycling the ball.
I don't think Dublin will be at the same level come the weekend. I think Tyrone will be itching for this game after the beating they took in August. Expect it to be scrappy and fierce

No Change for Dublin in ghost team reported by the media.

Good to see sticking with young lads.

Looks like Paddy Small isn't going to given an opportunity, unless he is injured.

Can we send out a search party for McHugh and Costello.

I was hoping to see Paddy Small given a chance. Hopefully might see him yet.

I agree on McHugh / Costello

Injured? No doubting their quality

Dublin have saved Gaelic Football, they will not be beaten by negative tactics. Hope Tyrone abandon the nonsense and make tonight a 15v15 game, eliminating the short kickout.

Don't know what to expect here. Has to be some new ideas brought into the mix or it could be a heavy loss again. Hope I'm wrong and the Stephen O' Neill influence will be on show.

Not a hope of Harte abandoning his failed defensive system - it's awful to watch and must be horrendous for the players. Dubs easy i feel.

Interesting game, the new kick out rule has hindered dubs a bit.

You can tell from the way scores are going over its not an ultra defensive game. Think it has to be the way that you don't know how your opposition team is going to play. Got to have some cards under the sleeve.

New kick out rule has and will hinder everyone Dubs included.

Except any teams that didn't kick short who were just hindering themselves for years.

Now everyone has just come back to them.

So what do you say now my friend. Tyrone played excellent football while trying to unlock a 13 man defence. Wayward shooting let them down but fair play to dubs. Their double sweeper system worked very well in second half

I'm not surprised with the result. Eoin Ogara just loves netting the ball against the red hands. The goal itself was humorous. A bad kick out from Morgan straight to Dublin player who passed it to ogara standing beside the goalline, he couldn't have missed it.

From a Tyrone perspective there are few positives. 12 wides, some of them easily scoreable. some poor individual performances. One positive is that Harte seem to have played more players in attacking positions. More players were staying up than before but according to sources they didn't seem to know what they were exactly doing. But with all new styles of play it may take time and we may sacrifice our first division status.

Well done Dublin, different class.
