dont get why you want one of the most attacking teams in the country to get a trimming but sure whatever floats your boat.

Donegal Centre back should have got a straight red in the 13th minute. One of the most dangerous tackles I have ever seen. A disgraceful act and the referee needs a talking to if he thinks a yellow card is good enough punishment for that tackle.

Leo McLoone? Tackle was a bit high, but not as bad as to deserve red card.
Nathan Mullins sending off was harsh.
Good game overall.

Kerry were never going to be allowed to lose that game today. Donegal very hard done by AGAIN.

I met Brian Mullins a few times..his son was about 10 then.
Brian said Nathan was good player, but needed to toughen up.
I think that's what happened there.....especially against Kerry.

You must have led a sheltered upbringing if that was the worst tackle you have ever seen.

Mind you it was marginal but that was more than balanced out by Mullins's red which was a bit on the harsh side imo.

Good game for January with a big crowd in ideal conditions.

Some display by Mc Brearty.
Best player on show today by some margin.

Yerra we'll take that, the young lads did well outfield. 3-14 is an awful score to leak but it's only the first game so can't be over critical. Castlebar will be a big test...

I'd say both teams will take positives from that game, It was a great advertisement for the league which seems to be coming on in leaps & bounds as a competition.

Donegal are unrecogniseable from last year & with Murphy, McGee McGlynn & co to come back I am looking forward to 2018.

The ref was always gonna make sure Kerry won that.

Fantastic alright today but not by some margin as u suggest. I thought Odhran Macniallais was also excellent at times today.

Good game overall but dogged by alot of cynicism and imo a ref who done Donegal little or no favours. Very trigger happy in relation to dishing out the cards to any player in yellow. The Leo tackle was a yellow not a red and certainly not one of the worst tackles ever seen as intimated by a previous poster. I felt the red was very harsh and seemingly given after consultation with one of the umpires who was miles away. I looked like Mullins was on the receiving end of cynical tug of the shirt and used his leg to trip up the Kerry player when trying to shake him off. I thought the game bared no resemblance to the game in Tralee a couple of years ago but you would not think that looking at the card count. Also the pen looked pretty harsh, in fact I thought Brennan made a great tackle.

I thought Clifford showed glimmers of his potential and this game will bring him on alot. He will be some player in time. I thought O'Shea was excellent in the first half and will be a great addition to Kerry this year. Lots to be pleased with from a Donegal perspective. McBrearty has highlighted before the game is currently playing the best football of his life and is one of the best forwards in the country. Having Leo and Odhran back will make a huge difference. The overall squad has more depth to it which is also pleasing. Also thought Niall O'Donnell showed up pretty well when he was introduced. Both sides will be disappointed with the quality of defending. I am all for a more expansive game but there are times when a more pragmatic approach is required especially at the end where the Kerry man got in far too easily for his winning score.

Both teams had an experimental look today with young player getting an opportunity. The red card for Donegal was counter acted by fact that they were probably more advanced in terms of fitness. Big game next week for Donegal where a win is vital in terms of keeping division 1 status which would be a satisfying outcome for all.

No doubt. Amateur boxers from Ulster have always said that when they went South they had to knock their opponents out......just to get a draw.

Ah Herbie for God's sake give it a rest. Why would the ref want to make sure that Kerry won? Ask yourself that for one minute.

This constant complaining about the referee, which is now endemic in soccer as well, has to be the most annoying things in sport these days. Did the ref get every decision right? No he didn't, he made mistakes. But the man is human & can only call it as he sees it.

The players made lots of mistakes as well for the same reason, they are human, & Donegal were to a degree architects of their own misfortune. Defensively we were poor & Nathan Mullins got himself sent off needlessly.

Donegal cannot control what the referee does or doesn't do. All they can control is what they do on the pitch themselves, they had the winning of that game under their own control but didn't manage to carry it off. However it is early in the year & I'm sure things will improve.

One thing I am sure of though is that bellyaching about the referee will not help the cause.
