lease is for the bar as far as I have been told. there is another lease for the field which no one seems to know what's going on i.e. what dates and time slots the gaa have to play games on the field???

Bar Only. MTA does not own the Field. Manhattan College owns the Field and NYGAA lease from them.

What GAA county board in their right mind spends 5 million for a 10 year lease on a bar, that's beside a field they have no control over. They need to spend more time worrying about the future if their sport and less about a bar. Otherwise our young Irish/American players will be playing Rugby in a few years.

Such a shame. We could of had something that we owned. Now we have a BAR with a changing room and officers for the top table on a 10yr lease. What happens with a year to go and no renewal of lease?? Croke Park should step in.

The whole Gaelic Park thing seems uncertain. There must be a lease if games are starting and it's being used currently. I heard Hilltop is still being discussed so maybe they will still purchase that property.

Any word out of New York camp? Leitrim have no more competitive games until the My but have the benefit of challenge matches. Has anyone joined the squad and is Clarke involved? Who is still around from last year?

and leitrim only played 5 league games because of snow in Ireland, winning 2. surely the most unprepared an irish team coming to NY has been in years...

Corofin coming out should be a good challenge before Leitrim. Season to kick off this weekend.

any early predictions for each division?

Presume corofins county representatives will not be travelling so you would expect New York (a county team) to very easily beat an understrength club team who will be here for a holiday.

My predictions would be:
SFC - Longford
IFC - Sligo
JFC - Cork
JFC B - ??

agreed they are here on holiday, and without county men... but if they were full strength, I would expect them to beat leitrim and other division 4 county teams in Ireland. should also be very fit.

They havnt that many county men and they gave Clare a fair hammering in a challenge just before their All Ireland club final. I would say nearly all them will travel over not everyday they get the chance as a group like that

How are you looking for May 6th going to be a very close game. Have you many from the team that played roscommon and sligo still playing? Definetly the weakest leitrim team to go out.

Definitely? 2013 Leitrim team were also a Div 4 team losing four of their 7 games but that didn't stop Leitrim beating New York by 24 points.

The thing with New York is when written off and give no chance they give a scare to teams but when talked up as causing an upset they normally get hammered so don't be surprised if the latter happens this May.

It Was a very disappointing opening Sunday in the park. Monaghan and Kerry only 12 a side for 15 minutes a half. Donegal and Longford only 9 aside. I think Longford loaned Donegal a few players. In my 20 years going to Gaelic park this is by far the worst I've seen! Is this the county sacrificing its championship opening day to legalize players for May. Perhaps next year the championship should start after the county game to put an end to this embarrassment.

If as you report the teams did not have the legal number of players, then the referees' reports have to state this and these games will be recorded as "not played". The players will then not be legalized. Could be a problem for the New York Board and team management.
