Swinfords Appeal To Croke Park

(Oldest Posts First)

Anybody got any idea what this is all about? For a club that never appears to do anything on the playing pitch, they appear well able to make noise in high places off the pitch in board rooms.

They played a suspended player on the final day against Bonniconlon, he received a straight red the game before hand. They won the game by a point and Bonniconlon objected to the game afterwards when they found out. Swinford said that he served the suspension of one game in a division 1F game which doesn't count as he got the appeal in a division 1C game. Very strange taking on the GAA like this.

Mayo co board are too lenient on this type of problem, for example cup tied senior player are playing both League and junior championship and getting away with it. I know if a club who fielded 6 senior championship players on their B team in the junior championship, they played on the night before in the senior champ. The B team won easily with roughly a score of 4-20 to 0-10 pts, the 6 senior players scored 4-14 between them, if clubs object then the co board may ask for their money which every club owes the co board for years so some won't object. It's beyond time that Mayo co board nail clubs that break the rules, every player wants to win and bring success to their club and when some clubs cheat their way to victory it destroys the reason why all of us play the game

Simple enough solution to this sort of thing.......transparency. It is happening in loads of counties.

List of suspended players should be publicly available on County Board website. If you name is on it you are suspended even if it is a clerical error. Players should be added once per week at the same time every week. This puts the onus on club secretary's to check which of their players are suspended. If there is an error or a dispute they can appeal straight away.

Clubs are less likely to chance playing suspended players when they know the opposition can check if they fielded an illegal player.

Swinford would be better of doing more to promote football in their town, a fairly large town and a big surrounding area and haven't produced a top player since P Carney except D Heaney and he is from Killasser
