2018 Connacht FBD League

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Anyone know where I can get the full fixture list for the 2018 Connacht FBD League? The Connacht GAA website is a disaster for fixtures and results in comparison to the other provincial websites. I have our own fixtures thanks to Mayo GAA.

I don't know about the other counties but The Mayo first team will be on the team holiday for he first 2 games so a chance to see the younger emerging talent and fringe players. I wouldn't play the first team at all for the FBD league.

I know Galway will be missing quite a few as well, but the difference is we need a few newbies and younger players to step up in many positions whereas Mayo probably really only need maybe 1/2 forwards. Ye are sorted everywhere else... Last stand for Kevin Walsh..

We really need to be beating ye this year in championship...can't let it happen three years in a row ;) Another backdoor adventure is not what this Mayo team needs I feel..especially with the new format.
Lots to come before then though with FBD and NFL meetings between us to come. Will be interesting to see how Galway do in division 1.

Agree.. im looking forward to locking horns with ye outside the championship format first.. i think we will struggle in Div 1 esp with the likes of Michael Daly out long term as is Cummins O Donnell and o Curraoin. Ye are well used to this Div and expierience will show..

i Think Mayo will go all out to win Connacht this year. Although they came so close to Sam last two years they still have nothing won under Rochford and he will not want to look back on his time as Mayo manager in years to come if they fail to win Sam and achieved nothing even at provincial level.

On missing players for FBD mayo were in the same boat last year with team holiday until that famous day in Kiltoom when they returned.

A trip to the backdoor and into the same group as Tyrone and Dublin for super 8s, with Dublin visiting McHale park.
I'd take it.

Great draw for a Leitrim team full of newcomers in Castlebar tonight against a Mayo second string but had a few expierienced heads as well. Well done Leitrim

Mayo had 10 first time starters last night and three more first time starters that came on. A disappointing game with lots of mistakes and one must take into account the horrendous weathers.

Still it was the same for Leitrim and they deserved the draw. Great crowd of over 1,600 at the game.

Now hopefully this fog lifts for tomorrow night or we could have a repeat of the Dublin game a few years ago.

Watched the few minute highlights of that Mayo Leitrim game on youtube. A few things that stood out was a lot of light players on the Mayo team and they will need a lot of strength and conditioning to make step up to senior level. The standard of the pitch. It seemed to be cutting up badly and now another game is to be played on it tomorrow night.

around 2,000 turned up for last Sundays called off game and 1600 last night surely the Mayo county board can fix these elsewhere and keep these games away from MacHale at this time of year

Bar Ballina I am not sure there is another location in Mayo for to hold the crowd. You have the floor lights in Castlebar plus everybody can be accommodated in the stand.

Windy Bekan would have been fun to stand out in under last nights monsoon.

600/700 in Kiltoom last night. Tomorrow night in McHale will probably hit 2000 again and I am sure there will be another 2000 for latest installment of the Ros/Mayo saga in the Hyde on Sunday. Not bad crowds for a competition no one cares about .

Wasn't there 900 people in Annaduff for the opening game between Leitrim and Roscommon last week? Great crowds.

Agreed, great crowds at it. The only quibble I'd have is the timing of these pre-season competitions, which has led to the negligence of Mayo having to play three games in five days when pitches are at their worst. Why not play these off in February next season, and move the NFL back a month? After all, there's often a huge lag between the conclusion of the league and beginning of the championship anyway, which could be as long as 2-3 months in some cases.
