End of Season stuff

(Oldest Posts First)

I see Molaise Gael's are first out of the blocks with their new manager. Loads of AGM meeting coming up so I hope all you keyboard warriors get your ass down to your club meeting. Then we have convention in 2 week's where there will be a few changes. Sec has his 5 years done so I hear it's a straight fight between Bernardine Mc Gaugheran and Gerard O Kelly Lynch. Chairman has one year Left

I had also a line in it that outsider managers are not cheap but moderators must have deemed it inappropriate as they took it out. Any small little bit of controversial stuff never gets on to the Sligo Hogan Stand. Other counties get away with murder. This probably won't get posted either.

As clubs didn't really put forward any new names except for O'Kelly Lynch then at tonighs convention all that's going to happen is a shuffle of the deck chairs with little or no new blood. Posters, Keep that in mind when you start criticising the Co Board.

A good point EoinOg.
My club have no representation on CB. We really struggle to fill positions in the club, let alone have people going for county positions.

An intermediate winning manger going back down to a struggling junior team when senior teams were looking for him Surely that's a big coup?

Other county's allow critical analysis and also win things. Not so in Sligo, I've had about 20 posts censored and no feedback as to the reason. Not healthy.

Glad someone has the same experience as Me re posting. It's funny how the dogs in the street know that most club managers get paid but as soon as I threw up a post about it, well it just got nowhere.
So when I think of Mr x going to a club I don't think that's a coup, I just think money, money, money

I know it would obviously differ but what would be the going rate for a manager with a proven track record these days? €50 per session?

Seems to be the going rate or else €150 per week. In mayo I have heard of big names getting 11k or more from intermediate and Junior Clubs.

15 to 16 k is the ballpark figure in Leinster for Inter/Senior clubs .The dominant senior clubs can and do offer 20k and more to certain managers.
"Our Games" as many top officials like to refer to them as,have been sold for the forty pieces of silver I think.

A very cyncial view from yourself. Can't blame omg for getting their man in sure they weren't paying as much as senior/intermediate clubs. Can't blame clubs for paying managers if that is what is happening all over the country now and unfortunately that's the way it's gone. Do I agree with it No, but you can't blame clubs for forking out now either if that's what the price of success is. I've heard of clubs playing managers who are club members.

Not sure why you are calling me cynical and then you write a post backing up everything I say. It's kinda daft that the official GAA line is that County Managers are not being paid and here are we in agreement that Junior club's in a county that plays in Division 3 are paying their manager. It's absolutely wrong but I don't know what can be done about it. There are club volunteers that give as much time to the club and don't get any appreciation.

Just to counter your point Eoinog, I don't think them club volunteers you speak of would go to a club outside of their own and volunteer their time? If a club cannot get somebody inside there club to manage a team, or cannot find somebody suitable and feel they have to go outside for a manager I don't see how they will get him/her in without at least giving expenses, especially if that person has to travel a distance 3 times a week.
I am a club volunteer and I don't do it for appreciation. I do it because I love Gaelic football and I love my club and thoroughly enjoy giving my time to it. And sometimes I will get appreciation from the players that I coach and/or their parents.

In general the club facilities in Sligo are average at best or if we compare to a national scale then they are poor.Clubs trying their best to improve facilities every year have now to come up with expenses for a manager. If they could use that fee to continue to improve facilities it would be more beneficial to the club. Has football improved or regressed since payments to Managers came to the fore. Asking clubs to pay managers that in most cases are club members is disgraceful. All top Sligo team's currently have home grown managers. Tourlestrane, Tubber, E.Harps, St Mary's ( the 4 teams that reached Senior Championship Semi finals) All those managers are getting paid. Did it really take a big name like Monty to get Ballymote out of Junior Championship Football. Did they not have enough pride themselves to get their act together without outside intervention and of course euro's. Owenmore Gael's the same.
