New Season 2018

Interesting Start to season with the both hurlers and Footballers facing Wicklow and Wexford and Meath respectively -
Really looking forward to 2018 League and Championship.

I think we will get promoted behind Laois but see wicklow now under strong management a real threat.
I also think we have a chance of a run in the championship - Double header in Portlaoise will be a good day out .

Our Winning average in football was circa 60% last year . Any improvement on that would be great

It's very possible that Laois could come third (to Carlow and Antrim).

Unless the new sponsor is going to let Tickets.ie keep their name on the shirts, I assume so.

So... the first game of the new season is in around 3 weeks... does anyone know who is in and who is out when it comes to the panel?

Heard there are 50 players training which is obviously down to the impressive run and performances this year. I would imagine about 20 will have to be cut from that panel fairly soon. 1st game on 30th Dec O Byrne Cup!! Hope we build on last year. No handy games in Div 4.

Playing Wicklow in hurling and football on the same day, surly a double header would at least be considered. Any reason why Wicklow have decided to bring Carlow to bray is aughrim not available?

Does seem a pity not to have a double header.

Will be interesting to see how we approach the O'Byrne cup. I'd say it will be a chance to try out new players.

Bray have a full length all weather pitch. It'll be played on it. The rest of Wicklow is under muck at the moment.

Hearing some good reports from within the camp .. full turnouts, good commitment and several challenge games with some new players showing very well. 1st up Bray on Sat vs Wicklow.

Best of luck to all involved with Carlow Hurlers and Footballers for the coming year. Starting on Saturday we must build on our 2017 performances and not slip up along the way. Good to hear of big turn outs in training. Ceatharlach abú!!

interesting night for both codes.
Both Wxford and Meath will give us an idea how we are shaping up . i know teams are trying out players etc but it is still a good barometer.
I will sti k my neck out and say we will get promoted behind Laois and we will beat Louth, lose out narrowly to Kildare and reach the last 12 in all ireland.
The Hurling league and tier 2 champion ship is so compeditive it is impossible to call but we will definitely be in the mix
so here is to a good year

Excuse my ignorance, but what is 'the scoops'?

If it's a web site, could someone give me a link?

the pitch holds up always very well as it has a sand base. Bobby Doyle of Dublin in the 70s saw DCP as his fav ground

What makes Dr Cullen Park different, if not unique, is that it's built on, spent coal nuggets, shale, and what's known as "2 down", unique in the sense that it's almost water/ flood resistant.
In a separate post on a different thread I asked why the St. Lomans /Moorefield game couldn't have been played in N.C.P . - C/W it's equipped with lighting.

Not pretty to watch, but encouraging stuff all the same considering we played so many new players. I'd be pretty happy looking forward to the league, attention now switches to London in 3 weeks time
