So, we have a representative in the semi finals, well done to St Loman's.
All 4 of those remaining will fancy their chances.
This is new territory for Simonstown so Loman's should have nothing to fear.
Rathnew play Moorefield in the other semi.

What does this say about the standard of Westmeath club football? Lomans have struggled twice to beat this team, losing last year. While they beat every team out of site in Westmeath (apart from Shamrocks draw in first round).

When was Westmeath club football of a fantastically high standard? Teams 2-6 in Westmeath (whoever they are) are a similar standard to the majority of Leinster counties. Look across the country and the amount of counties that are dominated by one team. Westmeath is not an anomaly.

I don't get this bashing of WM club football. Results wise our clubs outperform our county team. Mullinaghta ran Vicents very close last year and a win away to them was a good result. As for a one sided championship, this is the way things go in cycles..sometimes you have a dominant team, it happens every county at some stage...just look at Vincents and Ballymun in Dublin. Of course then we have G'castle who got to the all Ireland final.
Even going down the grades, Rosemount got to a leinster final last year, the bridge lost in the SF this year.
In junior Multy are in the leinster final and Moate won it a few years ago.
All in all I would say our clubs are representing us pretty well.

Agree 100% Culmor, was just about to post something similar.
I don't think it's unrealistic for Lomans to see this as a chance to at least reach a Leinster Final.
Simonstown will be thinking the same of course but it's wide open.
Although it is hard to know how the Leinster winners would fare against the likes of Slaughtneil, Corofin, Dr Crokes and co.

I think in general our club teams have done ok in Leinster, but mainly at Intermediate and in particular Junior grade. Only Garrycastle made their mark at Senior in Leinster.

Loman's have won the last 3 county titles fairly comfortably. Having done the three in a row I would expect them to start making their mark in Leinster. They have experience and they have plenty of talent. They have a great chance this year with the Leinster championship now wide open. They should be aiming to emulate Garrycastle's achievements.

Tyrrellspass and The Downs have both made Leinster finals too, so I wouldn't say only Garrycastle have made a mark. Only ones to win it, yes, fair enough.

Big chance for Lomans this year. Probably the time to do it now. Even though this team will certainly win a few more counties they may not continue to be as strong as they are now, with a few key players in mid 30s. They could do it.

Controversial and i suspect you are looking to stir it up here.

Look every club poaches to some degree if it means getting a good player into their club. There is no such thing as Parishes anymore in the GAA, its a literal free for all. Only thing i would say about St Lomans is that they were well ahead of the game in this regard and i suspect they still are. More luck to them though. If your own club is too lazy to get out there and attract players then dont give out about those that do.

I don't think Lomans need to poach players, just go there any Saturday morning and have a look at the talent coming through.
Perhaps its a case of players wanting to join a forward looking, and progressive set up.

only in westmeath. poaching doesn't happen in most counties.
every other county except Dublin appears to have clubs based on parishes or agreed areas.

Thats the way it was maybe 20 years ago. EVERY club, no matter what part of the country, will have some player who does not reside in "the parish" and certainly would not turn away a player from outside their parish who expressed an interest in joining their club. I suspect the issue raised by "thelutch" is alleging that St Lomans take this to another level.

Whilst I'm no fan of Clonkill they are regularly ridiculed for poaching from Turin and Crookedwood. To be fair, Clonkill, Turin and Crookedwood are all in the Turin/Taughmon parish so potential players have a right to play for which ever club they want. The parish stretches from just outside Cullion beg to Crookedwood so its a big area.

I recall someone previously commented that 13 or so of the current Loman's senior team came through their underage system which is fair going. Yes there is a dubious one or tow imports and I believe one of those doesn't even live in the county. I think they might be more guilty of poaching at underage. As stated previously, Lomans might be a victim of their own success which any club would love to have - similar to Man U of another era perhaps. It does help that they have one of the best Westmeath footballers ever produced and I often wonder how they would fare without Heslin.

Lomans have won the last 5 leagues I think without Heslin where he was mainly tied up with the county plus when he was playing sigersons with ucd .
