Kilcar pull out of U21 Championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Latest word from Kilcar is that they are pulling out of the competition in protest at the Co. Board not allowing them a free weekend before the biggest game in the club's history.

Not a decision easily taken but in view of the large number of players involved in both squads & that a key senior player picked up an injury in the win over St Michaels which was played the day after the win against Scotstown, its hard to blame them.

I completely agree idiotic match planning from the Co Board.

I do sympathise with Kilcar but there are 6 days between the matches so I think they should play the under-21 match. It really isn't fair on the under-21 players not involved with tge seniors. Hopefully some compromise can be found. Best of luck to Kilcar, would be great to see them progress against Slaughtneil.

You have to feel sympathy for Kilcar in this instance, but at the end of the day its not the CCC's fault either.

A few years ago the Cloughaneely club forward (in my opnion) a crazy proposal to increase the number of league games by ,did any think of the repercussions of this no and of course it was passed. Now when teams become successful here are not enough weeks in the year to play all competitions.

There are 2 many league games in Donegal, when you have o play double fixtures on bank holiday weekends its reflective, players are just going to stop playing ,simple as that and until all factions involved in Donegal wake up and format a realistic playing schedule this problem will continue to get worse .FACT

If Kilcar do drop out then i totally agree with the reasoning although i would love to see them stay because you want the best teams in the county playing. the fact from what I see isn't them game scheduled for today its the fact that they played last Sunday for the seniors and then again on the Monday for the u-21's which is ridiculous because take SMB for example he is a key figure for both teams so he will play four games in 13 days for two different panels does that mean then his training regime will be doubled as well its just not fair there has to be a differnt schedule for this there was one year we won the championship in the following year of which it started in which is a horrible situation as well.

It is ridiculous that u have an U-21 championship still dragging on until this time of the year anyways whatever about anything else. I think Kilcar would rather play their more important game first and would not take much common sense to reschedule to give them the best chance. Speaking of schedules what genius in the Ulster Council decided on a 6.30 kick off next Saturday meaning alot of people not from Kilcar myself included who would like to go see the game have a clash with the Ireland international game.

To make matters worse from an attendance point of view the game is live on TG4.
This means that anyone who is not a dyed on the wool GAA follower will stay in the comfort of their living rooms & watch both games on TV with a much smaller attendance at the game than would otherwise be the case.

I have to admit I will be one watching at home I think. I wanted to go to Omagh but did not realise the clash. So in the case it does suit that it is on TG4. I would have gone regardless were it not for the close proximity to the Ireland game.

In this instance I agree with Kilcar not fielding. But instances in the past teams have got away with not fielding, 2 teams promoted in 2011 for repeated refusal to play a play off. We also had Killybegs go the the Ulster council appealing this season, for games they didnt turn up for to be replayed because they lacked their county men.

Spare a thought for Gweedore that had plans in place to travel to letterkenny for the U21 match v Kilcar and at the same time they were gearing up to play St'Eunans in a county U16 Final at N.Mhuire. Did Kilcar take into consideration the dilemma for Gweedore by making such a late call in refusing to play the game? Are they out of the competition now? I travelled to the west for U16 Games and it was a great standard, Gweeedore taking it to eunans in the first half and Eunans trying to claw back into the match in the second half, well worth the trip I have to say!

Disappointing for Kilcar, but the rest of the clubs remaining should thank them for withdrawing and allowing the competition to go ahead.
Kilcar have, correctly, put the focus on Ulster club. Let's hope they get the win on Saturday night and reach the final. I've a sneaking suspicion they will.

The u21 championship was due to start In the summer, but Donegal seniors, back door championship saw most games be postponed. That's why it's only being played now that the leagues are finished up.

Another completion that has to be played in winter over the head of the all consuming intercounty game.

Gweedore agreed with Kilcar to postpone the game untill a later date, the county board the threatened Gweedore with expulsion to if they refused to play
