Has the North Down /South Belfast hurling revival died a death already?
No sign of Carryduff or Bredagh in any underage championship finals and power has returned to the Ards....
I'm not saying that's a good thing as I've said all along that Hurling development has to be sustained over a decade or more to reap rewards at senior and that's no easy task and reasons you see Ards teams drop off every once in a while as well when the effort isn't being put in. We've revived a bit at underage and are competitive, Ports are at one agegroup but very poor in others and the galgets believe that their second coming is about to start at minor next year and it's hard to argue with that although you need 15 and more to field...
I'm being told that Bredagh and Carryduff are strong at U12 and U10, I can't say for sure, but I know the highway to hellers are putting in big efforts at these levels as well. A lot of sons of ex senior hurlers it seems helps in this regard.
A few years ago all the championships at juvenile level went outside the Ards but the old order has been restored.
Not sure you can put Bredagh and Carryduff in the same box thuo. Carryduff have dropped down to Div 2 in the u14 and u16 leagues an didn't field a minor team. I think theare gone as potential force. At least Bredagh compete in Div 1 and don't drop down to the Shield for championship.
O'Rahilly's are still pluggin away at u10s/u12s and will be back at the top table soon enough. Next years u14 team will be a match for anyone.
Big problem for Ballygalget is the numbers. They should maybe think about amalgamating with someone. The amalgamation with Holywood didn't produce enough players.

Ports have next years U14's sown up and are already preparing for National Feile. The wee lads are pumping iron in the gym already I was told. Expect a big management team to be with them, plenty of glory to be had.

Galgets have big numbers U12 and down so there'll be no North Down imports as a lot of ex hurlers wee lads involved according to my sources, plus they won't be visiting that "amalgamation" route again as not one has made it to adult hurling as yet. Failed enterprise.
