Brilliant stuff from rathnew, hopefully they push on and go all the way now, James Stafford would be a huge bonus to the county set up, if I was John Evans I would do everything to get Stafford on board, Ross O brien and Power were brilliant today

You haven't a clue. Rathnew brought pride to their county today. Fabulous day in Aughrim and Rathnew should be congratulated on their achievements.

Somebody clearly weren't in Aughrim today, the only incident was caused by Connolly,Rathnew only revived 2 yellow cards.

I have no affiliation to Rathnew but I'm a proud county supporter so I for one will be supporting our county champions in their bed for Leinster and would love to see them go all the way.

I don't think their was a single Wicklow person who wasn't proud of Rathnew today, we should be very proud, our champions bet the favourites not only for Leinster but all Ireland, kept Connolly "the best footballer in the country" scoreless, Rathnew proved today that Wicklow football isn't as bad as it is sometimes made out to be.

Hats off to Rathnew. They shocked quite a few experts around the country, although not so much of a shock to some of us inside the county. Seriously, I think that this team is going to take some stopping. They appear to have an ideal blend of experience and younger enthuasism. Time now for the whole county to get behind them. As an earlier post put it, Mr Evans has every reason to be pleased

Congratulations on the outstanding Victory over St. Vincent. Good luck to Rathnew on the future journey.
Absolutely Fantastic result against one of the biggest and best funded clubs in the country.
I didn't see the game but every GAA person in Wicklow can be proud of your heros'

Keep her lit!
Hopefully you can make it all the way to Croker in March.

Longtime Kerry GAA Supporter.

PS.... Please can we have some lessons on how to handle the great Diarmuid Connolly?

WW9 what are you talking about.. that post was put up 2 weeks ago !! and FYI I never miss a match in aughrim no matter who is playing. Rathnew were superb today and I'm delighted for them, their supporters and the whole county should be super proud. You can't deny that they've had disciplinary issues in the past but that's not what today is about. Today is about an injection of confidence that rathnew have given the whole county and they must be applauded for that

Apologies
Yea Rathnew have had disciplinary issues in the past but disciplinary issues or not, they are our counties representitves and they should have the whole counties backing.

The scenes in Aughrim today were brilliant and hopefully we will see more of them whether it's with rathnew or county teams it doesn't matter once Wicklow teams are winning

Try to convince Damien Power to transfer to Kerry :-)

Well done to Rathnew. Moorefield in Aughrim next? Another tough one but I'd say they're licking their lips

Great game yesterday...

Though Vincent's missed a lot of chances early on in the game and Rathnew did well to go in a point up. How or why Vincent's persisted with the short kickout, i dont know as they got turned over a few times. Connolly looked injured and Vincent's structure especially in the second half was all over the place, varley out at midfield when he should have been inside. Main thing was they hadn't their homework done on Rathnew.

Rathnew were brilliant. There were a few niggles but a little less than usual. The thing that amazed me yesterday was their support play. After watching the county final i was worried they would drift out of the game and get overrun but they didn't. They took it in turns to make the support run (the ones that burst your lungs) to help out a team mate and thats what counted. They created overlaps, got some nice points varied the play and it worked. That said, thank god Bruiser didn't have to shoot as the makeshift corner forward.. Glynn got the run of the field and he hurt Vincents..probably shouldnt mention a player as they all played well and thoroughly deserved it.

I had a laugh to myself when Stafford when in full forward for his usual rest...:) and i just thought to myself, its that type of game. First high ball it didn't come off, Second one he punched it over the bar and the third one..back of the net.. I laughed we've seen it all before.

Thanks to all of the support from around the county yesterday. It was great to see, we are never short of support but it was magnificent to have the extra cheers in the terrace and stand. We called out for Aughrim to be a fortress and in my opinion - the majority were with us.

We are on cloud nine....but moorefield next. We march on again.

Lets see everyone in Aughrim.

Did I miss something or was the game not televised ? Surely RTE ( Repeat Telefis Eireann) have a higher opinion of Wicklow football.

TG4 didn't show as much as a second of the Rathnew v Vincents game on the GAA highlights program on Monday night yet they appeared to have a camera in every other ground around the country on Sunday afternoon.

Congratulations to Rathnew on a fantastic victory. They gave it everything and all I could wonder at was how they could maintain their stamina over the full game . They were a joy to watch and were full value for their win. Vincents were unaccustomed to the constant tackling and chasing of the Rathnew players. Anyone that was at the Dublin final was, as i was, amazed at the lack of intensity and the slowness of the Ballymun efforts, giving Vincents plenty of time to regroup and defend..Rathnew gave them no room and defended in numbers and broke at speed. Their determination, love of the jersey and never say die ,especially after the goal is to be commmended. What a Rathnew transformation when compared to their earlier matches in the championship when many of us were writing them off and many felt that that time had finally caught up with their established players.. What composure on the ball in the last five minutes with Vincents players unable to get their hands on the ball as Leighton and his players played "keep ball"with countless passes amongst themselves.
The victory for me ranks amongst the famous standout vicories by Wicklow representatives over the years in Aughrim, such as Wicklows juniors victory over a star studded Galway team ,on their all Ireland semi final victory before claiming all Ireland glory against Kerry in Croke Park, or the famous senior victory over national league winners Laois in the famous battle of Aughrim, or Baltinglass 's victory over the Larry Tomkins led Castlehaven on their way to winning the all Ireland club.
Rathews players, management and supporters must be immensely proud this week and their victory must inspire confidence for another mammoth task against Moorefield. We hope that Leighton can bring all the attributes of his game to the new Wicklow panel under John Evans as we look forward to 2018. Well done on a marvellous win. It will shorten the winter for all Wicklow gaels.

Isn't it great to see such positive comments on our Wicklow threads for a change. Amazing what a bit of success brings.
Well done Rathnew . Lets hope for an even bigger crowd on Sunday week.

I am probably a bit late in congratulating Rathnew as they prepare for their match against Moorefield but it was a privilege to watch their display against Vincents last weekend and it was a simplu awesome display of guts, determination, tactical awareness and skill from the whole team but especially from a man who could still do a job for the county if he was a little younger; Leighton Glynn was outstanding and the best player on the pitch. He played a very intelligent game and the tactics deployed by the manager was spot on but Rathnew will need to produce the same again against Moorefield. I have seen Moorefield a couple of times this year and they are very experienced and skillful team; similar in many ways to Rathnew - they will never stop playing till the bitter end and they should never be underestimated, they are at their most dangerous when written off. Obviously I hope that Rathnew can produce the same again and get through to the Leinster final but it will be a titanic battle and I look forward to the ding dong battle next Sunday.

P.S. Why can't we display this grit and determination at county level? Is it easier to garner it at club level where guys grow up together? It would be an expensive commodity if you could bottle and sell it.

Best of luck to Rathnew on Sunday against Moorefield. Rathnew will need to play as well as they played in the second half of their encounter with St. Vincents if they are to cause an upset against Moorefield on Sunday. I expect a good game between two sides with never say die spirit.
