Morley did an interview in the Mayo news expressing concern that it was too far for players to travel from Glenamoy or Belmullet for training. He expressed concern about the welfare of players and parents with the stress of all that travelling. Its the greatest load of balderdash I have ever read. Typical politically correct molly coddling of potential county players. Not to mention the fact that he clearly is disregarding the fact that there are more clubs in North Mayo than Belmullet and Glenamoy. Perhaps I have taken this post up wrong and I haven't read the interview but going solely off this point I would say I disagree with all of what is said here. A manager expressing concern for his players' welfare is being derided as "molly coddling" players. What is this post even mean, firstly if you knew the man, he certainly doesn't pull his punches or tolerate lack of commitment. As a county we have neglected and mistreated our underage system for years. The success of 2013 papering over the cracks. For years we have had the attitude that as a county we are doing lads "a favour" letting them play for Mayo. Poorly organised and planned sessions and camps, including the locations of training have caused massive unrest in players who have been underappreciated for years. Taking into account the needs of the players is a vital factor in management and not something to be criticised for. This is Under 17, young lads who do need guidance, coaching and yes protecting. Look at the ravages caused by the training regime for a lot of our successful minors, undergoing multiple hip operations. As for "clearly disregarding" other clubs from North Mayo, what do you want him to do? list all the clubs in case someone takes offence. Maybe he should sing the Mike Denver song 'Mayo are back', that covers a lot of them. Dunno if I've missed a bigger issue as to what you're getting at but a little bemused as to why these comments are balderdash and negative.

In the FAI development squads the parents are always met by the management or a representative thereoff. Parents are told what is expected of the players and what will not be tolerated. Parents are told that their job is to bring their kids to each training session and have no or little other influence. No coaching from the sideline except the management team. No comments to be made about/against the opposition. To encourage the kids but not to comment on their kids performance. Not to praise when they play well and not to complain when they don't play well. Parents are advised that they are not to get their childrens' gear ready. That this is the responsibility of the player and not the parent. If the childrens gear is not correct then they will be reprimanded. The idea is to get the kids to take responsibility themselves. I am probably old school but including parents in the group dynamic has its flaws. Parents are bound to favour their own progeny over other players and this will lead to parental knocking of certain players and management. 30 pairs of eyes watching a games can deliver at least twenty different and sometimes negative opinions. Parents are met individually before the season. Bar that they are told not to get involved. Not to express an opinion good or bad. I agree GAA parents do cause more problems by being over involved

Majority of that Rice College team would be U18 or U19. Don't know if any of them would be U17.

Our boys won well the other evening on the back of a beating to Galway. Still don't think there is a lot between the big 3 in Connacht in this grade.
