Pick of down team players from about ten different clubs.

Replying To PaudieSull1:  "Why can't people simply be glad to see Liatriom/ORahillys having a very good u21 team as that's a positive for Down hurling, the bitterness from some members of Ards clubs towards Liatriom, Bredagh, Carryduff, Shamrocks etc when they have a good team is unreal.....

Reality is it's very difficult in the likes of Liatriom, Newry in particular to always have good teams as numbers/interest isn't there and they are also dual clubs slightly different for Carryduff and Bredagh as they are two of the biggest 3 clubs in Ulster so numbers will be easier.......this u21 team is built on the sons of ex hurlers coming through and it's great to see, the young Mc Crickards, Mc Manus etc are class hurlers and we should be bringing them through to senior ranks rather than bitching about them and pushing them towards football.

For the last 3/4 yrs Liatriom have had good minor teams so they have a solid base to build on and push on over the coming years.......yes pipeline may be a challenge but they will only need 2/3 lads a year to top up the talent they have fir the next few years.......good luck to them as it's good for Down hurling to have more strong clubs or were some Ards people (I stress some) happier when it was simply a dog fight between 3 clubs."
Can nobody ask a genuine question without people flying off the handle and ranting on and on ?

10 different clubs? Can you name them? Detecting a bit of jealously here. Don't like to see other teams do well

PaudieSull1 is spot on with his assessment. So negative about non-Ards hurlers. There are as many equally talented hurlers outside the Ards as in the Ards, the Ards are just concentrated into 3 clubs. Portaferry have players from Kilclief and Ballygalget have players from Saul so what's the difference?

Maybe they could try to be GAA clubs and promote all gaelic games.

Well the CB certainly support that theory as the development squads in football are already up and running and the hurling ones will get going around May/June time.

Is this not up to the managers? Surely they should have the authority of when training should start.

A bit cryptic there "Thekid4", not sure about the man garden comment!!!

All the same its nice that there's hurling in places like Aughlisnafin, Drumaness, Dromara, teconnaught, that's a good thing.

What adult club hurling would these lads be getting?

Heard McManus, the Liatroim one, is heading to Rossa as his Da told someone Liatroim are a bit of a mess at adult hurling.

On the Liatroim U21 team there are two Castlewellan players and one Ballela player. Those players have played for that group of players from U14 as their own club cannot provide hurling for them. Where is the ethos of the GAA in promoting gaelic games. Oh, I forgot, Ards clubs are only hurling clubs.

Agree with Bricktop there. Oisin's Da had him at Rossa up to U14 but the lad wanted to play locally. I suspect if there wasn't a boat involved his Da would have taken him to one of the Ards clubs. The lad is also a handy footballer so he went to the closest dual club.

What are lads to do if their club doesn't have hurling or football teams? I understand Brook Byers and Daithi Sands plays football with Kilclief, Magic plays with Loughinisland and Conal Fay plays at Loughinisland

The whole ethos of the GAA has been lost in this county because the Ards hurling teams lost a few championships. Time The Kid14 got over himself. His messages are all about the rest of down team. If his purely hurling team can't beat a group of footballers then maybe it's time to look closer at his own players and setup and stop gurning about other teams.

Don't think brook or Daithi football. Jordan Doran tries for kilclief but is always sent off. James McGrath once of ballygalget plays for kilclief. CT of portaferry plays for Bright.

Liatroim have a few players from Castlewellan and Ballela that is about it. All the other hurling clubs had lads playing with other teams. I don't know where the kid is getting so mis-lead...
It is great to see an non-Ards team favorites at U21 Level as shows there is hurling outside the Ards at adult level and not just at U14 etc, Wouldn't write off Ballycran, Portaferry beat Liatroim comfortably in last years final.

Two Castlewellan and one Ballela hardly all Down team. You need to get over it and stop putting down non Ards hurlers.

That's the reason Down hurling is in the state it's in. Anti non Ards sentiment has a detrimental affect on the county team.

Time to welcome lads wanting to play hurling and not just football.

They did play for Kilclief in the past. I think Noel and Anne concerned about injuries so may have stopped.

You said they still play for them. There where 6/7 lads over playing but stopped as they where out of minor and it clashed with senior hurling.

U21 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL - RESULT
BALLYCRAN 3-8 v 4-24 LIATROIM

Men against boys.

Liatroim, as expected far too good all over the pitch against a Ballycran side that battled hard but just couldn't compete. Liatroim were much sharper, fitter, stronger and their first touch, for the most part, was excellent!
It will be interesting to see what Liatroim do next year at senior level. Lets hope they enter the Down hurling league in 2018.
There must be at least 3 or 4 of them lads that should be involved in the county panel next year.....

Well done and congrats to Liatroim and all other winners this year - all competitions finished on final official weekend of year. Time for a breather.

Fair play to the fixtures secretary for getting all the competitions finished on time. Not an easy task.
