I think its a good thing hes staying. After having time to think about it i really dont see us getting a better manager. Even a manager with county experience might be hard for us to get. Theres no denying we have come a long way in two years. People keeping saying well we have been getting to wuarter finals regularly and theres no improvement. There certainly is improvement, we could hardly best laois, or even get close to a top team. It happened maybe 2 times a year. The players have confidence and should have gotten to two leinster finals in a row. Yeah they played terribly in the quarter final and we all hate the sweeper but our lads didnt win any individual match ups either. It was just a bad day out at rhe wrong time.

Personally i dont think davy will flog them this year early. He really wanted to keep us in 1A and theres no doubt the lads put a lot into the league. Our problem was we came up against a team that wanted the league more in Kilkenny. Im also conflicted to the opinnion that going hard in the league hinders a team in in the championship because kilkenny started training early too.

We do need to blood more players in the league next year theres no question. We need to drop the sweeper or get a new one. I think davy is a smart guy and will make the changes. The players wanted the sweeper from day one. They are also driving it. Listen to OHanlons interview on the GAA Hour, he talks about it and breaks down how they envisage the sweeper system. I think Davy will target the championship next year and we will be in Leinster Final at least. Lets hope Rorys knee heals up aswel because he will be needed.

Im also excited about the prospect of Seamus Casey playing senior hopefully. Then the frees problem goes away and Wexford win a few more games wothout a doubt

i hear davy on newstalk this morning, talking about not putting pressure on,etc, etc.
sorry, but pressure is part and parcel of inter county hurling.
the person interviewing him said she felt he built on his squad last year....it gave me a laugh
our team needs to be re-structured,we need the likes of eoin moore back in the corner, damien reck can hurl further out the field,we need chin back centre back.
davy was also talking about the way we played 15 championship matches last year, incl walsh cup semi and final.am i alone in thinking treating the walsh cup in january as a championship match,is why we were spent in july when it mattered?
as both semi finals shown, hurling is now a 20-man game.so we need to get about another 5-6 championship ready starters, getting the absent players back would help

Hopefully the emphasis will switch to championship like it should. I have voiced my concerns before on putting so much importance into hurling Division 1A, when yet again the All-Ireland winner will have come from 1B. Surely, from a development viewpoint, it would be easier to blood the young lads into the team when operating in 1B, than the pressure-cooker environment (well turned into that sort of environment when the manager keeps bleating on about its importance). I know this bunch of emerging Limerick hurlers are exceptional and won underage All-Ireland's, but would their progression be as pronounced as it has been if they were say getting beaten by the top counties in the winter? Sometimes, it's better to build up a winning team at a lower level. Your still guaranteed a good game against a top team in the 1B group phase, and at least a quarter-final against a 1A opponent all going well.

We need to alter our physical fitness so we are hitting our stride at the tail-end of the Leinster round-robin, not emptying out by then.

The key games next year are away to Dublin in the championship and home to Kilkenny in Wexford Park if we dont win one or both of these games we may well be gone at the group stages.

limerick developed as a team throughout the munster championship.
but above all, limerick developed as a bunch of underage hurling development squads.
i do thinkyou are better in 1a than 1b,you get 2 decent matches in 1b.still better with 5 in 1a.
players develop quicker when playing the top teams.there is no doubt about that.
once we dont do a waterford, and completely take our focus off the league, and end up carrying that form into championship, that would be the worst disaster.
need to be getting better during the league, and carry that into championship.

I am happy he is staying for another year.

I'd love a situation where Davy experiments with the team selection in the league. For example, give Seamus Casey the frees for the whole league as he adjusts to senior county level, move Damien Reck to sweeper/Shaun Murphy to corner back, try chin at 11 to disrupt the centre back, etc etc etc ... and loads more just to test what could happen.
I honestly believe that very good hurlers can look only average when they are playing out of position and good hurlers can look very good when playing in their best position. A couple of positional changes might make a world of difference.

Eoin moore's best games for wexford have come at wing back and has struggled in the corner. Moore's injury record mean he might not even be able to committ next year as he is currently out injured again.

I suggested Damien Reck further forward some months ago and got slated.... far to talented to be stuck in the corner, can offer so much more half back or preferrable midfield. Weneed more phyisical, more aggressive corner backs.

Chin center back are you mad? On his day an unmarkable midfielder/center forward and your suggesting playing him at 6 when i can think of at least 3 better options for center back? If your not happy with o hanlon then paudie foley center back or perhaps even reck.

But yes we need to restructure our team, introduce new blood to strenghten our panel, develop a new style and tweak our fitness regime to peak come the summer. Ian Byrne has been impressive for ferns, get him and guiney back would be a help if possible. ross banville has been flying for the shels, only reason he wasn't in the under 21 panel this year is because he only turned 18 this summer but is too old for minor too young for 21. Mix in casey, carthy, higgins and we are adding depth and potential.

The league for us next year is about doing the above, picking up a couple of wins then if we get to a semi great, if not no big deal. next summer is a big one for this wexford team.

all about pressure, how nice the lads are and how nice Wexford people are.. seriously this is not high performance culture within a GAA. It is pressure and who cares who likes who.. it's not needed, just get on with the job. We've an even bigger challenge with the draws in the championship this year. I'm disappointed he's stayed on.

The ship has sailed on one if not all of these players. How could Fitzy pick Guiney again? Seriously like? a great hurler but not commited enough for the professional training required at inter county level now.

The lads who want to hurl are there. We need to stop begging guys to hurl for wexford. That energy is better spent on developing the guys currently involved with the senior squad.

Is there anymore word on Davy taking over the u20's?

agree,if a lad wants to hurl he wants to hurl.some love to be talked about in their absence.i am bored of the constant chatter about some of the absentees,if you havent contributed anything and are in your mid 20s you should be forgot about, not talked about.

If Shaun Murphy is sweeper again, we're looking at another disappointing year. Either get rid of the sweeper system, or find a capable person to fill the role.

Shaun Murphy is actually a good corner back so you could move him their and if we play the sweeper I'd like to see Kevin Foley get a go at it. If we must insist on playing it.

I couldnt agree more. Im not entirely going to blame the system. Clare played it and used it effectively because they had a top class hurler in the position. The same with waterford. Look at the clare v wexford game again. Wexford actually get 1 on 1 match ups in the forwards. Our forwards just cant gain possession when the passes give them no chance. Look at Waterford and clare, their sweepers give brilliant ball. De Burca is also able to get in under high ball as the extra man and win clean possession. You know if you drive it in long vs waterford your not winning it. If Reck was played sweeper he could give better ball and actually take the ball forward on occasion. Kevin Foley seems like the perfect man for the job. He is a much better athlete and id back him to make the right decision. He could also pop over a few points out the field because he would definitely score if theres no one on him. His passing would be a major upgrade too. Id say Murphy was the happiest guy in Wexford when Davy said he was staying on.

I agree with you. Shaun Murphy is a good defender, can also play midfield.
Kevin Foley lost his way as the year went on I think.

Compare the last two years to the last two years of Kilkenny development under Cody. Loads of players have been blooded and developed. Wexford haven't done that. I am not looking forward to another year of Picking the same team over and over again and failing to address major problems."
