Replying To OLLIE:  "Jaysus Sam do they still make VHS tapes? Louth reached six Leinster semi-finals in the nineties. Dublin had beating us in three of them and Meath, Laois and Offaly beat us in the other semi-final matches. After the nineties I thought I would never see the Wee County in a Leinster final."
That's right Ollie , though in hindsight when you look at it now it's quite concievable that we were a top 6-8 team in the country back in the 90s.. we just couldn't make the breakthrough.. 1996 we had Dublin on the ropes and blew it.. 1997 was devestating . When the draw was made we were shoeins for a Leinster final. We got up from div2 that spring .. beating Dublin and Mayo in the NFL.. (subsequently the gaa changed up the leagues total joke)
Everything was going to plan , but suddenly Offaly turned from no hopers to world beaters under tommy Lyons and beat us in Navan. Seamus o Hanlon who was a top midfielder at the top got injured pre throw in and Ken reilly who played excellently was intercepted pre Ht leading to a crucial goal.. that was a terrible loss.. Offaly went on to beat a depleted Meath in the final by 10 points. People might laugh now but it's quite conceivable that Louth could have won an all Ireland or at least contested a final in the 90's had we had ANY luck .. Kildare Dublin and Meath Down Mayo Tyrone were very little if any better then us then .. we regularly beat Galway in the NFL..it was a far more level playing field .. not like today were we are a millions mile off the top it seems..

When Offaly won the Leinster Championship in 1997 they were a Division Four team. 1997 was another disappointing year for the Wee County. Another year which Louth missed the boat was in 1991. They lost to Laois in a replay in the Leinster semi-final. Louth should of won the first match. Louth and Laois build up a bit of rivalry in the early nineties. They played four times between 1991 and 1993 with Laois winning two matches, Louth winning once and one draw.

As far as I can remember Paul Kenny didn't start Stefan White that day. When he did out him on I think Stefan scored two points. That was the missed chance of all missed chances .

I watched both of them matches from the Hoganstand in 1991. Do you remember the wooden benches in the Hogan? Traditionally Louth supporters would go to either the Hogan or on to the Hill. Back in 1991 the peaky caps were the fashion with the county crest on it. The Peaky Blinders would not get a look in.

I remember those seats well Ollie. I sat on them for long enough !!!!!! I saw those two games from the old Cusack Stand. It was demolished two years later in 1993. We dominated the first game but our shooting let us down. The winning and losing of the second game was the fact that Dessie O Callaghan was injured in the lead up to the game. He was a huge loss. Mick Lawlor got one point in the first game. He got 2-03 in the second game.

Ah Mick. Good oule footballer. He was playing with Laois for a long time. I think he retired in 2003 when Laois won the Leinster Championship.
