or Mickey Graham might get a call..

I think its easy for players in counties with no hope of winning anything to opt out. It'd seldom happen in Dublin or Tipp hurling etc cause there is much more chance of reward after the same amount of work.

Replying To theweanling:  "There's very little coming out from the actual camp. but its clear by listening to people that the supporters aren't happy with the management. I think that most of the reasoning for being unsettled is that back 5 years ago nearly we all thought cavan were on the cusp of a breakthrough and we were excited. alas it never materialised. its interesting to take a look at the cavan championship team every year since 2012. it'd blow your mind to see the turnover and its not all because of a competitive panel. by and large its through lads taking years out, leaving themselves unavailable etc. this year was hugely disappointing. there was some expectation after reaching the top tier but confidence quickly drained after a few poor or maybe naive performances. I think rightly so management did get some blame for the way the team was set up and from my viewpoint i felt the players didn't fully trust or know their role. they looked disjointed a lot of the time. I can't see anything changing this year and i expect the management will be changed and from my point of view Jason Reilly will be called upon."
Tomos core, James McEnroe, Rory dunne.

Tomas is 33 years old and and did indicate to me that he might call it a day but my gut tells me the heart will be back. James McEnroe has an injury so I would expect him back in training in six to eight weeks depending on his recovery. In fairness to Rory ever since the London game he has been struggling but like James I would expect him back in. Tell me the previous poster why bring in Jason O'Reilly he hardly wants to come into the set up at this stage. If Jason is wise he should work with the Gaels try and win an Ulster title maybe an All Ireland then he would be getting involved with players that he would not have played with or against.

Shocking quiet on all things Cavan football lately, proof that the enthusiasm we supporters once had has well and truly evaporated.

I very much doubt it Sean O Rinn.

I recall seeing an article from 2011 (I tried in vain to find it, if I could I'd post a link) in which the Co.Board outlined their ambition to win an Ulster provincial title by 2017. Of course, 2011 was the first of the 4 Ulster titles we won at u21 level, so their optimism was warranted I guess.

Well, look at us now, we didn't even make the final.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Football in this county is in a seriously dysfunctional state.

Well the Saviour of Cavan football was in charge for 5/6 of those years.
But we can't blame him because that's not allowed by the TH diehards!!

There was some degree of consistency in terms of personnel playing for Cavan when he was there, look at the state of things now, nobody knows who is on the panel. I suspect another massive turnover of players just like the pre-Hyland days.

Lads what's happening at the moment with Cavan is shocking. Killykeen Forest training sessions for example had to be seen to be believed. Tip of iceberg stuff.

I don't want to take from the lads achievements of making the panel and i know there is players yet to come back but the negativity and the sense of hopelessness towards the cavan panel now is scary. i was one of the people who thought back in 2013 that cavan were seriously going places and still had more good players to come in. where are they now? why have so many dropped off? why is there such a lack of interest?

Well, I called it, and i was right. Firstly, as a Cavan supporter, I wish every one of them lads on the panel the best of luck for the year.

The second point I'll make is this. I'd comfortably say that Cian Mackey has more appearances for Cavan than that entire panel put together. Where are the players that have played for us for the past 5 or 6 years or so? I know it's only the McKenna cup and it's only January, but one would hope that this is not representative of things to come.
Worrying times ahead for Cavan football, but when has it ever been any other way?

Oh I have a view for sure but I will keep it to myself. I did say after Wednesday nIght there would be plenty posts but they have started all ready as you have seen the team has been posted. The Gaels are not available until after the McKenna Cup if thats any help to you. I was talking to one of them Friday and thats what he said true or not. The main pitch is unplayable tonight as you would have guessed due to the amount of rain sleet and show along with gail force winds.

Hyland went through 4 winning u21 side which was the guts of 100 players in 5 years.
And he couldn't make a fist of it with such a high turnover.
Take the blinkers off.
