There will never be begrudging respect given to any team or management I see trying to do the thing right. I am born and bred Leitrim man, I love my county, I have gone to over 80% of Leitrim games since 1987. If I see wrong I will say it and not clap like a seal. I never try and criticize people on a personal level but if I think lads are not capable of doing their job I will say it. Honesty will bring a thing on better than pretending things are great. So I ask who is the better supporter??"
Obviously hit a nerve there with u banana republic, reason for that I wonder ? No body is saying clap like a seal, but don't look for fault in everything .... and yes the management is there 2 years well done on that correct observation but there is 8-10 new players in so it's vurtually a new panel and as I said on my post that is the problem... starting over nearly every year no continuaty... no you can mouth away to your heart content that your right but sometimes u contradict yourself so much on here your your own worst enemy .... by the way they used one v one marking last year against Carlow in the championship that worked well didn't it and last night they played a sweeper with a high line and pushed on the kick out not 1v1 ... so please just give it a chance , we are a division 4 county playing division 1 or 2 teams and they are lambasted at every turn , you said "if I think lads are not capable of doing their jobs I'll say it not clap like a seal" that's fair enough but if you are a man of such high principles why hide behind a fake name on a forum to say these truths ??

Question, is that Leitrim team close to a full team for 3018 or were Ye missing a host of players? Looked to be a lot of young lads out there as with mayo."

RobRoy1 this is a forum where it is a discussion outlet , don't expect management take stock of any of us on here so futile putting your name up as I can recall posters during Barney and Georgie's reign making it very personal towards them or anyone who backed them. , I am heavily involved in my club and matters that we can affect as a club we do. I praise when I see good and give out when I think things can be done better, that's hardly a contradiction. What we did v Mayo is starkly different to what we did v the rossies. It was not our god given right to beat Carlow. Carlow lost by second lowest amount to Dublin last year. We got have a system that suits the players and stick with it.

I agree with a lot of what you say Robroy1. Myself included and many others can be quiet negative at times on here. However, it must be said there has not been much to cheer about and a DRAW against Mayo's third or fourth string outfit is not something that deserves celebration when most people know the whole context. You rightly mention that we have been playing teams from a higher division. But what frustrates me the most is that every other county in Division Four have been taking steps to get to that next level where as we have been going backwards over the winter. I think everyone will agree that this year's club championship will be the most competitive in 20 years and that we have a brilliant cycle of young players coming through. You named 8 players who were not playing last night but whom most I would expect to start come the league which is completely fair, add in Conor Cullen to that list. My issue is that many players have made it resoundingly clear in their lack of faith in the management team by not committing this year. Are you telling me that Paddy McGuire, Mark Plunkett, Ronan Kennedy, Shane Moran, Pearce Dolan, Ronan Gallagher, Gary Plunkett, Gary Reynolds, Sean McWeeney and a few more are not good enough? These are the people who were actually training under the set up last year and won't recommit so I think judging their actions is the fairest way to view the current state we are in. And before people question these individuals there are 3 or four past u21 or senior captains in that group so they are obviously leaders and committed. This is even before we take into account Paul Brennan playing corner back for Donegal. As usual it's the hope that kills. Or what may have been.

Good post and Hard argue with that Leitrim-234 but don't think you can just put it down to all not committing because of management as there may be a various array of reasons but I totally agree that majority probably that was the reason , for whatever reason it's happening year in year out it's the biggest problem... Every year also players have come back at times when it suited them, some of the players you mentioned would be in that bracket and that was counter productive, I also agree a draw is nothing to cheer about if u refer back to the post I mentioned how the work rate and bit of fire in their belly was most pleasing thing for me not the result... I certainly don't think everyone is negative and a lot of what is said is justified , just sometimes not sure the fact that the lads that are involved and are given up 6 nights of there lives for Leitrim is not taken into account. Unfortunately those that did not commit are not involved so nothing we can do about that it maybe time to concentrate on who is, not ideal by any stretch of the imagination but we need to start looking forward, keep these players and if new management is in next year at least have this group again for next 3-5 years.. Divison 4 must be the priority . In fairness some lads are getting chances that seem to be grabbing it with both hands attitude wise at least I know it's early days but that as someone said is a small glimmer of hope. Thanks for your post , Great points

Totally agree , common sense to anyone with a football brain we need a system, last year it was non existant, what i seen against Roscommon and Mayo was the beginning of at least a sort of system, I have no doubt from your post you know your football but I'm sure the people that are at every training session and know what form players are in or who is carrying knocks etc are better infomed than both of us seeing them once a week or fortnight...On the negativity my point is sometimes your delivery could be better, I understand your frustration and your viewpoint and while I agree with some and not others I think some can be very matter of fact when they are just your opinion. this is not personal Leitrim needs all the support it can get and you obviously are a passionate regularly supporter which I applaud you for but if you like telling truths you shouldn't mind hearing them, it may not be meant that way it's just the way it comes across sometimes ..

Can live with that RobRoy1 I certainly never intend to make stuff personal as I have known and still know a lot of lads involved in the management and on the panel. All good lads with great intentions but I can't standby and say everything is rosy when it'snot. I genuinely think this crop of lads is the best we have had for sometime. Their progress is slower than it should be for various reasons such as drop off rate of experienced players and not sticking with a clear game plan. But as usual I know the lads involved do give it their all but I still question have we the right men leading this bunch forward? I think not but I look forward to being totally wrong on this. As you said it is just my opinion but it is based on watching a lot of football over the years not gossip gained in the bar or on websites.

Hard argue with that point when you see some things unfold at games, one or two may be out of there depth at management level, would have preferred if unhappy players got together and brought concerns to county board at end of last year than just walk away and not come back, have no doubt managing this county is a difficult task and do think it's ahead of last year (just and wouldn't be hard) wether we are moving forward as quickly as other teams in division 4 I'm not too sure ... hopefully after Sunday we see a few more glimmers of hope

Heres a full team not involved with Leitrim this year for various reasons;
1. Philip Farrelly
2.Paul Brennan
3.Ronan Gallagher
4.Paddy Maguire
5.Sean McWeeney
6.Gary Reynolds
7.Wayne McKeon
8.Shane Moran
9.Pierce Dolan
10.Gary Plunkett
11. Mark Plunkett
12.Kevin Conlan
13.Ronan Kennedy
14.Conor Beirne
15.Adrian Croal

I know lads feel they can't commit due to various work/ study commitments but if we had most/all of those players as well as the best of whats on the current panel we'd have a squad very capable of getting promotion within 2 years. If promotion could be achieved momentum builds just like what happened in the early 90's, it took promotion and 3 or 4 years of building with many dissappointments on they way to get to where we got in 1994. Doubtful we'll be ever winning connacht tiitles again but if we could get everyone pulling together for a few year's we could be at least holding our own in division 3 and enjoy a few championship wins like similar sized counties like Longford, Feemanagh and Sligo have done over the year's. We've the potential to get to that level and its frustrating that we're forever stuck in division 4 and have our 2 championship games a year and a new panel every year.

I understand what you are saying here but it's the same thing every year it seems looking at the players that aren't playing and talking about them, like Conor Beirne will never play a decent stands of football again. So I believe we should just focus on what we have

I was out in Clonbur yesterday. Horrendous conditions for a game of football, the pitch wasn't fit for purpose, long grass and cut up and when the rain picked up at half time it made the second half a write off really. I don't agree with the no January football argument as it gives the likes of Leitrim half a chance of a trophy, and also how else are you supposed to know how your squad is looking before the league. But there must be better pitches in Galway.

Anyways, the 7 points win probably flatters Galway a bit, we conceded two very soft goals and held our own for the entire game really. There seems to be bit more of a plan this year, seeing how we reeled off a fair few points quickly for the second game in a row, and there seems to be a bit more balance to the squad or maybe it's just set up a bit better. If Galway are a Division One team (albeit probably temporarily from what I seen) I'd be thinking we should be doing OK in Division 4.

I'm not sure where this idea is that we have a squad with a better "balance" or are getting used to a "system" is coming from. Its great to see Leitrim getting a small bit more competitive in the FBD and good for the players involved confidence but lets get a grip with reality and not patronize these players. We have got a draw and a 7 point loss against both Mayo and Galways 3/4 teams and a 14 point loss against Roscommons second team. That's the facts and we can dress it up whatever way we want and pretend we are being optimistic or positive if we wish. A question for all posters on here, If Benny Guckian or Seamus Quinn had not been in charge of the Leitrim team this year would they have even been on a 10 man shortlist for the Mohill job? And that folks is why we have so many of our players not willing to commit to the county team this year. And what will happen next year after another hammering by a Roscommon team who have strengthened their panel after beating us by a record 17 points last year, more of our brilliant young players will decide to just play club football and who could blame them? This is all as a result of poor leadership and continuous bad appointments by the county board.
