New Wexford football manager

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I don't think I agree with only starting back on Jan 1st. It is fairly vital for Wexford to stay up in Division 1 of the hurling league I think.

All seem to be enthusiastic about Anthony Masterson. What are his credentials? Has he been coaching for a considerable period of time? Worked with high performance teams? University degrees or masters degrees in coaching, sport science, sport psychology? I know he played for the county and is very passionate, but what's his expertise?

just like hurlers,no need to push the panic button on 1st week of the year.
i would rather we try to have a good league campaign, staying in division 3,then try win a competition in january which matters not.

Best of luck 2 d lads 2moro and for the season ahead. I made myself available for selection this year but new management weren't interested. So unfortunately 2017 was my last year of inter county. It was a privilege playing for Wexford and I'll always be proud of it #lochgarmanabu - Joey Wadding

Joey Wadding... can we afford to throw away lads who are only 30? Started all games last year too I'm fairly sure.

Sad to see Joey go. His experience could have been vital to the new set-up. Banville, Roche, now Joey. Big losses - hopefully, there's still a few more years left in Lyng, Brosnan et.al.

Wonder why new management weren't interested in him? Never even brought him in to train.

Good victory. Any time you beat 15 wearing that jersey is a good day. Anyone at game. Who played well.

Good confidence boost for the team heading into the league. Taught Barry O'connor did very well at centre forward and the malone brothers in the half back line were good. Daithi had a very good 1st half but less influential in the 2nd and Barry o'gorman put in a good shift. We didn't give up a goal chance all game which is another positive biggest concern would be not scoring from play for 38 mins of the 2nd half which even allowing for the wind in our faces is worrying

good win,but seriously, just like the hurling, would you read anything into these matches on frozen tundra in january?

While I would echo the opinion that there shouldn't be much read into results at this time of year, at the same time I see Sunday's win as a huge fillip to the lads, particularly after the manner they went down to Offaly the week before.

It was the first time we beat any Dublin side at senior level since 1997, and is surely comes at an ideal time to fine-tune training ahead of the tough league opener away to Fermanagh. Besides, had we lost we can be sure that the usual naysayers would be analyzing the result so to fuel their agenda(s).

Furthermore, there's nothing better than to get one over on the Dubs regardless of the strength of their team on the day, particularly in light of the disrespect Paul Clarke showed to Wexford with his comments in the lead-up to the game. Moral victory indeed!

Anyone (from St Martins preferably) know if Lyng is kicking ball this year? A lot of talk in North of Wexford today that he's called it a day. Hope they are just rumours!

Just listened to it there. Said playing at a "very high-level and at a very high intensity is difficult at 31" and also said something about his getting old. Ah, it would be a shame if he hung up his boots. Probably one of the greatest Wexford players...
