In a scientific age, questioning is a dying art because science and rationality believes it can provide or will someday provide all the answers (which will never happen of course) so people just accept things. Of course you have to look at someone's CV before employing them, and that thing of nod and wink etc. is still very prevalent in Ireland across all sectors because it is such a small and reserved country. Meritocracy should always come first in my book. I believe Paul McLoughlin has the capability to make a go of the job given time. The relative success of the last 10- 15 years can sometimes generate unrealistic expectations and he has said he will build a new team so let's get behind the man and give him our full support.

"In a scientific age, questioning is a dying art"?? Back the years, before the scientific age, we had so much questioning, didn't we? We all questioned our politicians, our beloved catholic church, our place in the world... yeah right!

"I believe Paul McLoughlin has the capability to make a go of the job given time"... I believe in a lad with no CV as much as I believe in a wonderful paradise the far side of that white cloud I see in the sky today, as much as I believe in the tooth fairy, the easter bunny, or the puca. Blind faith will get us nowhere.

I thought he was referring to your sensless questions ie is he ex army or about the involvement of someone from new ross. Thats why questioning is a dieing art, anybody can ask a question but the skill is asking relevant ones id say!!

They're both relevant questions lad.

Apologies - I replied to the wrong post. Yes P Mc is an army man - played football with Jim Gavin for 23 while in the army. I would say there is no skill involved in asking the "relevant" questions - just a matter of having the courage to ask the right and often difficult ones. Another point I would like to add is that the number of applications for any position doesnt really matter. Companies go through through a lot of bother to find the right candidates for jobs - but you never really know how someone will work out until you give them you a chance.

Jeez this is tiring he hasn't even managed a game yet and is probably taking over the job in the most difficult circumstances for 20 years or more. Give the man a chance

Anyway heard Paul 'spot' Murphy known more in soccer circles is coming into the panel, anyone else of any players coming in or out of the panel?I

Apparently Jack Kelly, Richie Farrel, pa Doyle, Alan Tobin and Darragh pepper from our county champions have been included in the squad

Playing at home is handy for players and supporters but won't have any bearing on the result of game doe

Sad to say but there will be more Laois people at the game than Wexford people

Nearly 7 weeks since he was appointed, our new manager still hasn't spoken to all the players. Very interesting.

"I have still not spoken to everyone, I've to talk to some of the players before a squad is fully finalised," stated McLoughlin. "I have not spoken to Michael O'Regan, but I believe he's committed to hurling."

I wonder will he have spoken to them by Christmas? It's the first thing most new managers do, touch base with all in the squad. Don't know how anyone can plan without knowing who they'll have.

Have the footballers started training yet? I been talking to hurlers and they are flat out trying to get fitness up. Just wondering if the footballing efforts are trying to match the hurling ambition.

Paul McLoughlin is in way over his head here.
I'm not sure his knowledge of Wexford football is even that strong. Any manager who would drop Joey Wadding without even a few trials or training sessions, would not bother to pick up the phone to Colm Kehoe, Jake Firman and Michael O'Regan amazes me. Banty rang every player on the 2016 panel before agreeing to take over for 2017. I do feel that Kehoe and O'Regan are wasting a year by being subs for the hurlers as I can't see either of them being much higher than number 24 on the hurling panel, but I don't blame either of them for giving hurling a crack.
2018 will see relegation back to Division 4 and a Leinster championship defeat to Laois, qualifiers depends on who we get in the draw but I wouldnt be too hopeful there either.
The real work in Wexford football is for football people to make football better, if football people continue to look over the fence at what hurling is doing and worrying too much about that then Football is going no where, hurling is not the reason for football being on its knees, football is the reason.

I'm not sure how they could be training if the manager says he hasn't even spoken to all the players?

if you ask me the hurlers training in november is absolute nonsense,go back as hard as ya can 1st jan and try to be fit for june rather than worrying about a few league games, kilkenny are not back training yet even!
training in november is why players are retiring so early.the commitment is now at a level where if players dont think they can win something they just wont bother, could the inter county game be made more enjoyable and appealing for 30+ year old players by starting to train in Jan which means players at least have some level of a break from the game?
i would rather a bad league campaign by both teams, than a bunch of players wore out by april and retiring well before they hit 30.

Replying To hurlorhurley:  "I actually think Davy is worth the money because he has breathed new life into the senior hurlers. The underage work has been done for the past 10 years in hurling and a good manager at the top is needed for it and we have it in Davy.

For years the bottom of the football triangle has been neglected with money only being pumped in at the top. Whatever money is saved by appointing a local manager should be put into Anthony Masterson top drawer and he should go out and spend it on improving under age football. I expect a few leans years for our top team but the aim has to be 5-10 time to be back competing in Leinster finals."
i would agree with you.i do wonder, maybe could we have got somebody slightly more known/high profile though.
but anthony masterson appointment is an excellent appointment, and if the clubs buy into his plans,we will hopefully be back competing in 5-10 years time.
rome wasnt built in a day.
