He has also won quite a lot with teams he managed.

Agreeded but that was a few years ago now and football has changed a lot in that time

How do you feel about the Davy project ?"
I think that the davy project can be justified as a worthwhile project for a few years.. We have a decent young team who needed a boost to get us to next level. Hopefully we can get someone closer to home in 2/3 years..

The banty project was an attempt to balance it up for football but the team is in a totally different place.. They need someone to bring through younger players over a longer period.

His two year spell over Wexford was better than David Powers and Banty's he kept Wexford in Division 3 both years and also had some fine wins in the Leinster Championship.

Know nothing of Mark Roche.

Aidan O'Brien did a good job considering what was available I think. The cupboard was pretty bare, I think in his second season due to injuries and retirements he had 12 players who made their championship debut. Think he also kept the team in Div 3 which took some good work considering where the team is now. A lot of people like Jason Ryan, but he did absolutely nothing to prepare the team for the future, hence there being no players there when O'Brien came. I've played for O'Brien, I wouldn't always agree with his decisions but he's a good manager and a good man.

Were ye saying he is going to be back in as a selector?

Ah so it's not madness spending a fortune to bring lads half way across the country when it suits a particular agenda ??

Madness is accusing people of having an agenda everytime they seem to say something that could be twisted to suit your agenda. Grow up will you lad. He is allowed to have a point of view, made so valid points to be fair. Just because you dont agree doesnt mean he has an agenda!!

Calm down there pal, and it's not me who needs to grow up. The poster made a point about the madness of bringing people " half way across the country". I do apologize for not being a mind-reader, so I looked for clarification.
Isn't Davy coming across the country ?

Not sure how there is an agenda. If we have to replace davy with someone like Anthony Daly it is equally mad IMO.. In an ideal world at least every second manager appointed is home grown.. I would include clubs in that. There are some clubs spending 10,000 a year on an outside trainer and never even consider looking to someone in theor own club..

I agree 100% with that post.

Maybe "agenda" was the wrong word to use !!

The Wexford club scene is not taken seriously enough, nor is it of a high enough standard, to produce top quality home-grown coaches. Fact. In both codes.

the wexford club scene is not good enough because it is played at the wrong time of year.
i know we are not unique by any means, but is a competition running through to november serving anybody other than the elite?

That is some awful schedule. I never copped the geographical locations of Div 3 until now. Away to Sligo, Derry, Fermanagh and Longford! And home to the 2 closest oppositions in Westmeath and Offaly and then home to Armagh. Brutal draw. If we had got Longford and Sligo at home, it would have been much better, I reckon they could be ones to be battling to stay up along with us.

I agree @Perfect10

There is still a lack of interest in the club competitions, even amongst the senior clubs. There are very few getting in top quality coaches to learn from, very few doing high quality coaching and training sessions regularly.
