Dub Soccer head's not happy

(Oldest Posts First)

Anyone else notice the sniping ?

In the media etc

But also a few of my old school mates who would always have seen our sports as "bog ball" now seem to feel almost threatened by the Dubs success, wanting to belittle it.. before they would have cared but now it's as if it's bothering them

Is it seeing more kids in Dub jerseys and bunting all over the place making them feel not part of it and then maybe feeling bitter.. or are they feeling threatened that kids want to player for Whitehall / Kickhams rather than St Kevin's ?

Roddy Doyle was at it too not so long ago

I've a load of Dub mates that never gave a damm when we were losing

But now they all of a sudden can't help but bemoan Dublin's success, they are almost jealous they aren't a part of it and can't see to be part of it because they'll look like glory hunters..

So for me that's almost made them feel more bitter about the GAA. All the attention the bog ball is now getting and they have no sort of relation with it

It was all about soccer and now the tide is turning and they resent it.

Yep you're dead right, Jimbo. A lot of my soccer-loving friends would be the same. They do this really stupid thing where they'll purposely get players names wrong too. They'll say something like Bernard Cluxton or Stephen Rock. And yes they are grown men.

I know its been covered in multiple threads already, but the number of negative pieces in regards the All Ireland final has been quite significant. More has been made about Lee Keegans GPS tracker, the Dublin forwards taking down their defensive counterparts in the last minute, financial inequalities and Jim Gavin's demeanor than the actual game, or, for that matter the fact that Dublin have just achieved something that hasn't been done in the last 30 years. Think about that for a second, a team has won 3 in a row and journalists want to spend more time talking about the good of the game when they couldn't talk about the good of the last game they saw.
In the last week and a half we've had:
1. Dunphy says the Dubs aren't great and a lot of them are too big for their boots
2. McKenna regurgitates his financial doping piece that came out a year ago
3. Kimmage calling Dublin players cheats and Jim Gavin an unlikeable figure due to his media responses
You add that in with other pieces like "Dublin aren't as good as the Kerry / Tyrone teams of the 00's" or Kieran Shannon's piece in the Examiner about how cynical play and the win at all costs mentality is ruining gaelic games. For the record, I think Shannon's piece has merit but to bring that out now and use the All Ireland final as an example where we had most of the cynical play in the last 5 minutes of the game. The game had another 70 odd minutes of skill, passion, tension all the things that make Gaelic games great.

absolutely agree it's happening. Bunch of sky subscribing sheep down the boozer trying to belittle the game...
btw was digging the head off each other in the seventies & eighties not "win at all costs"?

If you want the national focus to be on the match then win it without cynical cheating. Mayo are equally guilty. The 2010 leinster final is only remembered regarding a referring blunder. Meaths 1996 win for the ugly fight.

And if you want the whole country to grovel at the dubs achievements and laud you for it then do it without all the natural advantages and resources.

Dublin are doing what they should be doing considering the completely unequal playing field. Realistically you should never lose. It's a simple as that.
