Árd Cloch v Nás na Ríogh

(Oldest Posts First)

2017 HAVEN HIRE Senior Hurling Championship Final - 1st Oct
Ardclough v Naas
Newbridge 3:30 PM

By the looks of it, all the smart money is on Nás na Ríogh punters, the spread is the only point of discussion.
I'm sure Ardclough will bite down hard and not let the Naas boys get into any kind of rhythm.

Good question and I'm sure a number of other clubs would dispute that.

If we go by the Senior Hurling Championship roll of honour, see below, Clane are way ahead on 16 championships, albeit the last one was 95 years ago, so while top of the list, it is not in any way relevant to the current hurling landscape in Kildare.
Ardclough are second in the list but their last success was more than 10 years ago in 2006, before that 2004, and before then 1985, the end of their golden era.
Coill Dubh are third in the roll of honour, just one behind Ardclough, and have been consistently successful in each decade since the late 1980's.

I would suggest that Ardclough are one of the blue bloods of Kildare hurling, along with Coill Dubh and Éire Óg, but Naas and Celbridge are close to assuming similar titles, based on recent form.

I would suggest the geographical home of hurling in Kildare sweeps from central Kildare up to the north east corner of the county, taking in parts of the east of the county.

Interesting that Castledermot won it in recent times (well 25 years) however they havnt even got a team anymore. It would be great if Croke park would invest more money into kildare hurling as their is massive potential there

I t would be great if County board put as much into hurling. Having viewed underage hurling of late ,its Naas, Maynooth Celbridge, Eir Og. Thats it

Mark number 13 up. Well done to Ardclough on a great performance yesterday. Goes to show there is no substitute for bottle. Hard Luck to Naas. Had no answer to the unstoppable force or the immovable object that was Ardclough.

Don't need to. Number 13 county title in the bag and being the only Kildare Club to have won the competition in 2006, I doubt they will be to bothered tbh. Job done and all that. Some serious looking teams going to be in the competition this year. They should have won the All-Ireland in 2006 but were beaten in the quarter final in extra time by the eventual winners.

Who would have believed at the start of the year that Ardclough would win the championship and Coill Dubh would find themselves in a relegation match.
Speaks volumes about the state of kildare hurling.

Bon, Not sure what point you are trying to make ? Coill Dubh were poor this year and that's why they struggled. I saw them in two of the games in the championship and they were bad by their standards. Ardclough on the other hand should have beaten Celbridge in the group stages, Played Naas off the field for 40 minutes also in the group stages . 3 silly goals later and Naas beat them. There are no Senior championships won until the final on the first Sunday in October. There is a lesson there for learning.

not sure i agree with you 100% Browning.
Ardclough deserved winners, no doubt.
However, i saw their game v Celbridge in the group stages - they didn't deserve to win that one. They didn't score until 27 mins into the first half. Celbridge had a man sent off before half time and Ardclough still lost by 3/4 points.....pretty conclusive in my book.

Dr Watson,. I said Ardclough should have won. They deserved nothing, you never do. Played against 14 men for 40 mins. Some poor tactical decisions on the day ultimately cost the manager his job after that and the Naas game in the league stages from what I hear. They were only 2 points down going into injury time. The last two Celbridge scores came when Ardclough pushed up to try and win the game. Take nothing away from Celbridge though it was a good performance when down to 14.
