Kerry going full tilt against a Dublin team operating at about 60% efficiency and they won by a point. Cork and Galway had loads of chances against Kerry but lacked belief. Mayo beat them but needed a replay to do it. Advantage Dublin. Condorman (Dublin) - Posts: 983 - 28/08/2017 13:32:36 2039309 Link 1 |
Dubs are going to be huge favourites but history will tell you it's going to be a tighter game than many predict 2winjustonce (Mayo) - Posts: 65 - 28/08/2017 14:28:34 2039367 Link 0 |
Dublin are a class team and great to watch but they will earn it against Mayo. Mayo will not be wondering after the game what if, because they will go for it...........unlike Tyrone. It may or may not be good enough but if it is a patch on last years game it will be a cracker. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1834 - 28/08/2017 14:40:02 2039379 Link 0 |
The standout stat for me is that Mayo have matched Dublin in terms of point scoring but Dublin have scored a lot of goals in these games. This would suggest to me that it is vital Mayo concede no goals if they are to win. Mind you its not an easy task stopping Dublin scoring goals.

How do we think Mayo will set up lads, last year it was all out defense which served them well yet they weren't able to get the scores necessary to get over the line. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4445 - 28/08/2017 14:44:03 2039381 Link 0 |
Dublin at 2/5 or cover the 3 point handicap sounds about right. This MAyo team don't lie down or cant be considered bottlers but as in all the finals they aren't the best team in the country. Barring an early Dublin red card, Dublin will certainly win this. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 28/08/2017 15:15:42 2039401 Link 0 |
I think it unlikely that there will be a last minute goalkeeper switch by Mayo this year!!

Recent clashes between these teams have all taken on lives of their own and I expect Mayo will give Dublin a right good rattle as always. To win though, they will need massive performances from their key men: Keegan, Boyle, Higgins, AOS, Cillian O'Connor and Andy Moran, and they also cannot afford any giveaways or blunders like the own goals and the penalty last year. I think it will come down to the last quarter and how Mayo cope with the Dublin subs. The quality on the Dublin bench is staggering and their subs usually make a big impact against tiring opponents. Mayo gave them a hand in the goal scoring last year!

Oh! they got the scores alright the first day, more than Dublin. Unfortunately for them, two of the goals were for the Dubs.

You always hear the cliche that it takes a good team to win 1 all-ireland, and a great team to win two. This has been a great Mayo side 2011-2017, and their achievements this decade have now surpassed those of Donegal & Kerry from the familiar 'top 4' of this '10s decade imo. Regardless of Sam count, Mayo's longevity at the top spanning 7 seasons now, marks them out as a special side in football history. With Dublin poised to be named the greatest side ever, it's not stretching it to suggest that Mayo might be the second best side ever, with a third final loss in 5 seasons looming against the goat. True, there was 2 own goals in the drawn game wasn't there. Actually Mayo should win this pulling up lol.

I would class this mayo team as one of the great teams, once in a generation team, problem is there two teams like that now. And dubs aren't just great, they that little bit more

a very tough call but possibly mayo, based on what rochford saw unfold before his eyes yesterday I think he will be certainly be changing his game to make sure they aren't caught flat footed like tyrone bulmccabe (Tyrone) - Posts: 361 - 28/08/2017 18:05:14 2039500 Link 0 |
????? Totally missing the point. I'm not denying Dublin are favourites. And I am not saying Dublin were good in the league final. I was responding to a poster who said Kerry are a poor team. Nobody said they were poor until last weekend. Nothing to do with Dublin.

Kerry were poor in both games against Mayo.A long way off their performance in the semi final against Dublin last year.It was a mistake last Saturday to drop James O'Donoghue.Kerry's best chance would have been as an attacking team rather than trying the sweeper which doesn't suit them.

Mayo management team have 20 days to work out a counter-system to combat the Dublin 'patient hand pass' tactic of play (I can't think of a better name for it ATM) sam2008 (Tyrone) - Posts: 797 - 28/08/2017 21:18:47 2039627 Link 0 |
What makes you think Dublin will play like that against Mayo? Horses for courses.
