Has the penny not dropped. '99 Connacht final only time we outnumbered Mayo in a competitive match that I remember going back to the mid eighties. Remember they have a full county to pull from. We have half a county and a hit and miss sporting city. Nothing new in this and most Mayo people I know admit that they love this current generation (2011 onwards) more than any other. On the Rossies we would have more of a level playing field over the years when it comes to support. In fairness also KW is doing well considering this present group of very talented dedicated footballers are not getting it easy attracting the love of the non core football fan particularly with hurling so competitive at inter county and our county hurling team at their peak.

I think the Development of Tuam is of course a plus for Galway Football, and I would have no problem playing games here, ideally if it was the go to pitch for games under-lights on the Saturday nights I think it would add a lovely balance to the games. But Pearse Stadium should be and will be the home venue for Championship games, anyone that was in Pearse for the recent Roscommon and Mayo games knows it had a great atmosphere, parking is a disaster, but I have to admit finding parking last sunday in Tuam was as bad and it was a disaster getting home, also watched a fellow Galway supporter come back with the side of his car been keyed! But that happens I suppose . Ideally if Tuam was a 10-15 K Stadium with Lights it would be a brilliant alternative, and it could even be used for some of the Hurling games. Outside of Bsloe which is hundreds of Km away from some clubs we have no proper place to hold games.

The danger of making Tuam too big is that it will lose the atmosphere that it currently has, as for last Sunday, the ticket stalls was a disaster so I hear.

There was only slightly more Mayo fans than Galway which was always going to be the case with our Hurlers playing at the same time. About 4000 vs 3000 in my estimation. Great support from Galway and great work happening in Tuam, soon the facilities will match the playing surface. Nice to see common sense prevailing and the FBD final being played in Tuam also, better to see the team supported than in an empty stadium with nothing but Ed Sheeran Receipts blowing about in the wind !

The only traffic issue in Tuam on Sunday was caused by the gomies who tried to park at the gates of the stadium or as close to it.. Any one with sense parked at supervalue, joyces, the cathedral car park etc and town was free flowing within half hour after..

About 60 40 IMO. Not as wide or close as suggested. 2 to 1 at most. To be expected given they have a full complement of season tic holders and one code to follow.

Agree 100%. I had no ticket. I arrived at 1.10pm. Entered the ground at 1.25pm. Parked in st jarlaths ground and walked 600 yards to stadiums. It's terrible to read such anti tuam stadium bile. After the game, i walked for 10 minutes to my car and had left town within 5 minutes. My advice to those people who hate Tuam Stadium is to stay at home.

Anyone with an ounce of knowledge when it comes to the history of Galway football would realise that tuam stadium is a much loved venue steeped in folklore and football tradion. Last Sunday's attendance proved that.

The county games should never have been switched to Pearse Stadium. Its hard to imagine kerry switching their county venue from killarney to Dingle to appease a small number of local business men. In county football, you never concede your home venue and that's exactly what we did 19 years ago. A disastrous decision financially and from a footballing perspective. However Its not too late to rectify that crazy decision

Pearse stadium lacks tradition and atmosphere. it is a bottle neck to get into and a nightmare to get out of. The football it serves up is terrible stuff due the usual hurricane force winds that teams are askrd to play in. I have often felt sorry for players who are forced to play in these conditions having trained so hard all year. It really is a disgtace.

Pearse stadium should really be sold to property developers. The proceeds should be split down the middle between hurling and football. I'm sure the ground would sell for at least 70 to 80 million. You could develop a top class hurling facility in Athenry and put the other 30 to 40 million into tuam and also invest in a few more pitches in loughgeorge.

If its so loved why were we outnumbered by Mayo people ? Even Kevin Walsh said that four years ago only 100 people would attend an fdb league match in tuam. There was once a great tradition in Tuam, its folklore now, the reality is that both Ros and Mayo will outnumber us there

its their no 1 game
galway hurling supporters have zero interest in galway

I agree with you on Tuam but using the Kerry exampl as an analogy is way off. Of course there are issues with Pearse (primarily access) but the GAA always needs an infrastructural presence in or around the city given it is the largest centre of population. Other sports would really mop up with no visible presence. I would not think it is about appeasing the business community. As for the value you put on Pearse maybe monopoly money terms you are thinking of.

So galway football supporters from renyle, clifden will have to make a 180km round trip to tuam to watch galway play a home game. Hardly fair on these supporters. Pearse won't b sold.

Great to see people taking the initiative but sorry the county ground is in the middle of the county i.e the city and should be for obvious reasons, Tuam is in the north Of the county, Ballinasloe even though it has lights and is far more accessible ground in terms of parking, location, motorway, rail proximity to other parts of the country etc. the bottom line is it's too far to the east for people from the west of the county. Overall more people would rather Pearse even with its problems over Tuam or the Duggan.

If the city bypass is ever built ....... big if I know ...... Tuam would them be very accessible from west. Until then your point is very valid.

And anyone with sense travelling to Pearse Stadium on matchday would do well to engage with such common sense alas we don't see it. Humans eh?

Amazing how you seem to think parking is the only thing worth raising in the comment I agreed with.

Tell me did you stand and watch the traffic flow for half an hour from all anglesbefore going home yourself? It's amazing what living and working in the town does for your perspective!

History History History, how many Connacht titles did we automatically win because we played our home games in the 80s and 90s?
Some of us would rather have a proper discussion, I understand the strong link to North Galway Football has, but I also find it so insular when people have little or no understanding of people travelling from West Galway to Tuam for a match, its nearly doubling the travel times.

Our Hurling team have fought the Leinster Council to bring games to Pearse Stadium, and I didn't see many people give out after the Kilkenny or Dublin games this year.

Tuam should for sure have a place as a County Ground, but selling Pearse Stadium? Cmon lads!Really

Pleasure to be in Tuam last Sunday (bar result)..25 min drive, parked in church of Ireland cathedral car park, walked up the rail tracks from corrib oil to the pitch and out just as fast...queues for tickets were annoying but 15 mins saw me through.

Just a point though and I've seen it mentioned here...many of us Mayo fans bought tickets to help the development fund last Sunday and in the past so less of the smirking and sneering from Galway bay fm on the amount of mayo fans that travelled for an "FBD" game wouldn't go astray...
