So derogatory comments about other sports is the way forward. Connacht rugby have built from a base of 200-300 fans to a really impressive club. GAA could learn a bit about putting on a match day experience from them. Galway United are run by a very dedicated bunch of volunteers. They have no money, no sugar daddy's and local support isn't great but yet this group put hours of their own time into it every week just to keep it alive for Galway because they know eventually someone with financial clout will come along. There is no glory in what they do. They do it fir the community yet have to put up with the likes of you making comments. There are things you can learn from all organisations. I'd swap the key decision makers in both of those clubs in a heartbeat for those running GAA in this county.

I never said the Sprortsground or turners cross wasn't a fortress......I'm saying the idea that eamon ready park is a fortress is a joke......it's a guaranteed 3 points for an visiting side. I Can't remember the last time Galway United won a game in any park never mind eamon deasy.

Match day experience at a GAA ground is a supermacs truck and a table full of double priced chocolate bars and multipack cans of coke.

Absolutely. Lots of easy stuff that won't break the bank. A decent PA system would be a good start. Have people coming in one door and out the other in the toilets rather than 2 way traffic! Someone cleaning toilets regularly during the game. People walking around with food/ snack trays like at baseball games. I was at a good band, had a few pints before and after and food at the sportsground. Paid well for tickets but it was my birthday! It's always easy to find the toilets at the grounds in Galway, you can smell them before you see them. In one case keep your eye out for the green wall, even the flies won't land on it. If you want to see the difference between pre/post match entertainment go to a Connacht rugby game. While tickets cost more, their programmes, entertainment etc is at another level. The whole gate money scandal & credit card scandal that was been investigated has been well & truly brushed under the carpet now. Not a dickie bird about where that money went since. Connacht rugby got 20 million from Irish govt which they did not deserve. They are always giving the béal bocht, their CEO Willie Ruane is always moaning. You would swear they were discriminated against if you ask me. Greyhound racing gets 16 million a year too. Connacht Rugby has a wage bill to meet every week. What's the gaa doing with it's profits?? It's a long time sense i seen Connacht rugby team down tools in the way Galway did in the 2nd half against the Rossies.

Galway footballers did not down tools, they played until the end and had a shot that was saved on goal line in 74th minute. I don't like their style of play though, the constant handpassing and kickpassing backwards. Regarding Connacht, when did they last win anything, answer 2016 I think? Galway footballers have 2 Connacht titles in the last 3 or 4 years. Gaillimh abú.

The re development of the sportsground got funding. No funding for day to day activities relating to the professional team was given. I may be wrong but they did say the stadium would be available for other organisations when not in use by main tenants. Also Connacht rugby brings great revenue to the city on a regular basis. So the council can quite rightly claim it its it's an investment. Rather than moan about them, learn from them. The GAA do many things really well but, particularly at local level, they could improve certain aspects. The rugby lads are not proud. They are copying the best of gaa by trying to engage with the communities. Anyway lads it's not them and us. I go to Spo rtsground, ED park and am a season ticket holder for gaa. As a sporting community our biggest issue is people dropping out and weather it be match day experience, standards of infrastructure we as a sporting community need to start joining together and pushing government for municipal facilities where practical. very well done Mayoman. Thanks for your support of GAA by being a season ticket holder. I like the way you support other sports too. But some on here just like having a go at the GAA in Galway. What they/we could do with a 20 million euro grant though! What can be learnt. Well Pearse stadium is an asset to Galway city for starters. The pitch is good, and it has a nice location by the sea too. Signposts could be put along the prom and also lwr Salthill for the stadium though. It would not cost too much for this. Also a stand could be named after a local Galway hero, eg Tony Keady, 3 in a row team. Floodlighting- well the latest up to date technology could be used here Finally yes Tuam stadium needs to be updated. It will be a 10 year project though. Yes the GAA gets funding from govt, well deserved funding too. Irish rugby though got 70 or 80 million to redevelope Lansdowne rd. Will the taxpayer ever get any of that back. The RDS is also getting a big grant. I mean come on, these are professional sports, why should taxpayer fund them. Also will Sportsground be used for any other sports- ok greyhound racing LOL

It was joint funding to develop Lansdowne in conjunction with the FAI...........and don't get me started about organisations letting other sports use their grounds.

Lovely idea: Joe McDonagh and Enda Colleran, Lord have mercy on them, both taught just up the road on Endas (Colleran was one of the nicest teachers in there). Those are just the first two that popped into my head, I'm sure there are plenty more.
