Club Intermediate League and Championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

After looking at the Intermediate league table today, have to say it looks to be extremely competitive. Few surprises with Toome sitting in 3rd place, Doohamlet second bottom, and Emyvale rooted at the bottom. Every team seems to be taking points of everyone? With the round 1a championship kicking off next weekend (if monaghan don't beat the dubs), who is fancied? From league form, will be very hard to call.

Yes it's a really competitive division, always seem to be the most interesting of the three each year. Toome and Blackhill deserve enormous credit, small clubs who haven't played at that level for a long time and both look like staying up. Their playing numbers would be small compared to the likes of Emyvale who look destined for the drop. I'd say Carrick to go up in either league or championship, Corduff have a five point lead on third so should hold on to that and could then be promoted by winning the league or if Carrick done the double.

Great to see the smaller clubs doing well though, especially clubs like Toome and Blackhill who have been stuck in junior for a long time. Surely Doohamlet will come good? If i'm not mistaken, it was Doohamlet that won the Intermediate double in 2015. Carrick looking good for league but hear they have a young, inexperienced side which might not help in championship. Cremartin i think are a dark horse along with Tyholland who are a good championship side.

League looking extremely tight at the moment. 4 points separating 3rd and second bottom. Looking at emyvale sat evening they are a team who will take points off someone. They are not as bad as table shows. Big win for Aughnamullen yesterday beating Blackhill. Carrick beating doohamlet keeps doohamlet down there in the mix but surly on paper they have enough to pull out of it. Then again, games not won on paper.

Looks to be between Cremartin & Blackhill for the drop along with Emyvale for me. Cremartin have lost five on the spin in the league and seem to be sinking, Blackhill are running very close in nearly all their games so reckon they can pick up a win soon. At the other end of the table I'd fancy a Carrickmacross double which going by the table would almost certainly mean Corduff going up with them.

Have to fancy Carrick against tyholland but in saying that Carrick won't have it all they're own way. Toome v Aughnamullen is a tight one but momentum is with Toome and the 9 point win in the league should give the lads confidence so toome by 3.

I agree toome is going well and league performance is totally different than championship so aughnamullen will be a different animal come semi final day and with aughnamullen management team with toome for twoyears they will know the toome lads inside out but saying all that it all depends on the day

Was just showing the league table to some lads at work today, what do we think? Blackhill with it all to play for, 2nd, 3rd and 4th looking for a home semi final and the big names Doohamlet and Tyholland still not safe, should be a good set of games on Sunday.

Blackhill should not have any issue beating Corduff. Why is that game in Magheracloone

Corduff ladies are playing their Ulster Semi Final in Corduff on Sunday at 2pm as well so men needed to switch venue. Bit unfortunate that Corduff supporters won't be able to make both games.

Curious what you're basing that off? Are there injuries on the Corduff team? Corduff have had a better league campaign than them and did just as well in Championship(better if you count that they were beaten by a team that got to the semis as)

It has been well known this week that Corduff will not be inteterested in beating Blackhill on Sunday - Win and then they will go Senior with no silverware should as expected Carrick complete the Double - That came from a member of the Mgt team

Haven't been in Monaghan the past 2 weeks with work so I'll take your word for it. Wonder if Toome/Inniskeen feel the same way, waste of time playing the games if no one believes they can beat Carrick.

Toome will try beat doohamlet. If inniskeen gets the points off emyvale toome can't finish 2nd so no reason not to as they will hardly wanna finish 4th and play Carrick up there. Corduff will throw the game as they don't wanna finish 2nd as well as the added bonus of putting aughnamullen down if they loose in the process. Wouldn't really expect anything different from them. They had to get killanny to let them win last year to stay up. County board really needs to watch these games tightly cause match fixing shouldn't be allowed. Go out and play ur best. If u win u win, lose u lose.... If ur afraid of Carrick or afraid to go senior then u really have no business being in the top 4.

I think saying afraid to go senior is incorrect, I'd love to be playing senior football but I'd rather wait another year and have silverware out of it.

If u haven't got the belief to win it this year, what makes u think u can win it next year. Sounds like a lad that's making excuses before the failure.......

What are you talking about? I said people don't want to go up without winning a trophy, you can still have the belief of winning and also plan for not winning. Sounds like you're happy to win a consolation prize over in Toome....
