Ulster Boys making all the Noise on the Hill

Replying To ulster83:  "will be supporting Dublin for one. dont believe that all ulster followers support each other"
Well good for you, but for me it's my county first and thereafter every Ulster team. Otherwise, what's the point? The essence of the GAA is pride in place. An Ulsterman supporting the Dubs against an Ulster team is not much better than those Irish soccer fans who fly over to the UK every other weekend but who wouldn't be caught dead at a local soccer game.

Replying To MuineachanAbu:  "One thing is for sure, while there is no love lost between Tyrone, Monaghan and Armagh we all have one thing in common. We are proud Ulster men and women and would root for each other against Dublin any day.

So, bring plenty of colour Monaghan, Armagh and Tyrone and let's drown out the washed Navy and Light Blue look."
I can see a lot of the armagh and tyrone ones not supporting monaghan to be honest. in 2014 when we played dublin after the armagh/donegal game the majority of the armagh ones around us and a few donegal ones were shouting for dublin.... i wasn't surprised at the armagh supporters cos i wouldn't cheer for them in a fit (unless they were playing cavan of course!!), but i was surprised at the few donegal supporters shouting for dublin

We are all Ulster teams and proud to be. Both sets of supporters from Armagh and Tyrone will be supporting monaghan. Of that I have no doubt. For 2 reasons, we're Ulster and we're the underdog. Monaghan supporters will be able to enjoy the first match of good old Ulster rivalry. My support will be with Tyrone in that one as I feel they have the template right to go further.

In the first match I feel I must support Armagh.
Not because of the pain Tyrone tend to inflict upon us, but for the support Armagh gave Monaghan back on league final day 2005.

Armagh were there to take the Division 1 crown in the second match, but as we toiled on a two point deficit in the latter stages of the Div 2 final v Neath, the Orchard voices never dipped in their support for the Farney.

When the last gasp goal gave us victory, Armagh fans joined us on the pitch (after the infamous "plan b" announcement).

For so many Monaghan fans that day was a perfect day and perhaps the start of our journey ever since. A glimpse of what could be, and sharing it with fellow Ulster Gaels made it even more special. Unforgettable.

I don't think Ulster fans have ever really had any problems or bother with Dubs on the Hill. It's other counties who try to rile Ulster fans. I know SOME Meath and Laois fans have tried to start some bother in the past.

Will definitely stay and cheer on Monaghan, used to hate Armagh back in the day which will probably be reignited come Saturday.

Would never cheer for Derry though, not in a million years.

Ulster has some truly bitter rivalries but it would never prevent me from lending my support to any of the Ulster teams. Although I will be supporting Tyrone and Monaghan I would wish Armagh all the best if they were to emerge victorious in what we be an epic battle. In recent years Ulster teams have received unprecedented levels of attack from the southern media and their successes are often downplayed and not fully accepted. Indeed many posters on this forum use derogatory language when referring to people from the northern counties. However, these same people cannot stand it when Ulster Gaels demonstrate solidarity with each other.

I don't understand how anyone outside Ulster can fail to understand your provincial unity if they have even a basic, ITV rudimentary grasp of Irish history. For what it's worth as a second generation Irishman I've got total respect for the way you've managed to resist social and cultural apartheid for this length of time and the way the GAA cements that bond and makes it even stronger.

Having said that, I think you've lived through a unique set of circumstances and it's just not like that for other provinces because our backs haven't been up against the wall. Myself, I consider Kilkenny to be our rivals and I wouldn't support them against anyone, I'd always shout for Tipp or Cork against them. I don't hate them or anything, to me that's just a natural reaction to your local rivals.

You are right Med. Unless you have been kept on the side of the road for hours by UDR/RUC/British Army patrols; threatened, sneered at and subjected to sectarian abuse; had your clubhouse burnt down; pitch embedded with glass; pipe bombs hung on your gates; seen your club members murdered on rural country roads or in the dark of a city street; buses and cars attacked by baying Loyalist mobs........it's difficult to understand the bond between Ulster Gaels.
