Rory Gallagher Steps Down from Donegal Post

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Rory had to go think that bit obvious , he was dedicated could be a combination of lack of ready talent and tactical naivety , but mangers do t deserve abuse be it from the stands or social media , we in Dublin have an outgoing hurling manager , it was difficult as a fan to hold ones counsel at some of our games . These guys are not paid Jose wages they are GAA folk like ourselves

I would love to see him with Cavan, whether it is this year or the following when McGlennon gets the boot for back to back relegation."
Fermanagh might get there before you. I'm sure they are looking for a bright young manager with a tactical mind and a deep knowledge of the game. He wouldn't have the 'Jimmy' baggage to contend with there and would know the Fermanagh scene well.

Think he left Fermanagh on very bad terms didn't he?

Very good interview with Gallagher on Off The Ball tonight. Should be on the podcast later.

Ya, heard that alright and he did himself no harm at all.
Funny how you get the impression that a lot of the stuff that you read about these guys who are deeply entrenched in a county set up is often just the continuous need of newspapers and media to have something to say and sell anything that might catch the eye.Along with that you'll get social media feeding into some of the stuff they read or hear and it can skew your perception of a guy.
Sure, he made mistakes and a lot of Donegal supporters have every right to have an opinion but Gallagher gave a lot and came across as a decent fella who didn't seem to hold any grudges whatever about the keyboard warriors.

Great interview, comes across as an honest bloke who tried his best for the Donegal cause. Seems like the players and county board didn't want him to go. Donegal may be sorry in the long run over this. Unless you get Jim or brian McEniff back to manage then you have no manager inside the county who has been on the line winning an all Ireland final.

I sincerely hope he didn't quit because of online abuse even though he said he didn't.

Was a very great good interview, was interesting listening to him talk about the league this year and fitness. Was always a hard act to follow after McGuiness, the external active media presence didn't help either. The edge between them was unsustainable.

In truth it's a sad outcome, for both men, given the success both men brought together.

Can only be positive for Donegal leaving that rivalry and legacy behind and focusing on a new era.

He did his best but using the excuse of young players lacking experience in the team is that, an excuse. He picked them ? Chose not to look at players in donegal between 23 - 27. He was there for 7 years as he says. I wish him well and Donegal owe him for what he gave to the county but i think he took the team as far as he could. To me he is a truely strong number 2 .

McGuinness said in his book that he would make a better No 1 than No 2.
