Replying To Pinkie:  "Why not Salthill? I have never been, but surely 1-2 hrs to Galway from even the most remote part of Mayo, better than 4 to Dublin?"
I live in Athloneabout a 40 minute drive from Galway. When going to a match with a big crowd in Salthill that journey takes roughly 5 hours. I can get to Dublin in just over an hour and even with traffic i am always parked within two hours. Its a no brainer. Salthill is a disaster. Anyway game is in Croker thank god as Tarismelting had said id rather go to Castlebar to play it than Salthill

Why is Salthill so bad to get to?
It could not possibly be worse than Pairc Ui Chaoimh, I am sure of that!
But wouldn't it take somebody from Belmullet 4-5 hours to get to Dublin? No?
Surely if you walk for 30-40 minutes to Salthill you'd park far enough away to avoid the congestion? I have never been as I say so I am curious!

Just situated in the worst possible place they could have a stadium. Its a disaster and a major cock up by Galway investing money in it.
Just done a google search 3 hours 58minutes from Belmullet to Dublin and 2 hours 22mins from Belmullet to Galway add in the 3 or 4 hour delays in galway the people in Belmullet will be home in bed quicker next monday night with the game in Croker

Unfortunately not. The prom always has its own traffic, people coming into Salhill to walk the prom, tourists passing through etc. Add in match traffic with only parking for 7-800 cars in the immediate vicinity it leaves lot of people walking 30-40 minutes as you say. But the traffic out of Galway can be horrendous, no matter what direction you try to take, traffic lights at places like Terryland, UHG and everywhere in between means it takes hours to leave. Plus the road way down from the pitch to Leisureland is dangerous if you have small children. Its extremely narrow and when a match is over the crowd are all squeezing down that lane it can take 10-15 minutes just to move 20 feet. How it got planning there for its revamp is a joke. Theres no way Tuam could be as bad.
