Replying To Pinkie:  "To be fair, his idea has merit.
Would it not help Carlow to be even training with the Kilkenny development squad for example?
I am sure it would."
Carlow are a senior hurling team and beat Wexford on the league a few years ago.

Why don't Wexford go train with Galway or Tipp to make them better?

The way for stronger counties to help others is by letting their clubs play in their leagues.

Carlow teams are playing in the Kilkenny leagues for years now.

You throw carlow in with Wicklow and kildare even though our u21s play senior Leinster and have beaten Dublin and Laois in recent years.

Resources are what's needed not some pat on the head.

We'll certainly take all the help we can get atm, particularly in Belfast.

Im more interested in his input, if that is part of his remit, at underage/primary school level in the city. Rural underage hurling seems to be in decent health to me, some of those posters from that area im sure can correct me if im wrong.

If he can help the senior team well and good but poor/average coaching and trying to address the disinterest at primary school level, by both schools and pupils, is crucial.

As i said before getting Casement redeveloped soon is also hugely significant, its no coincidence that since it has lain dormant there has been a drop in interest in the GAA among kids in the city with hurling in particular struggling more.

The main problem for Antrim is getting better quality games for young players.

Is it a bit strange we'd get paired with Tipp for something like this. Would Dublin not be handier. Get regular blitzes played between clubs/schools/development squads. It's only 3 hours from even the most northern clubs to Dublin.

Add in Down, Armagh and Meath clubs to get more games in. There's no substitute to playing games against good opposition. All the coaching in the world won't get you up to standard if you're not testing yourself in a game.

Would help Whammo if ye played the games you are fixtured for first.......it's always someone else's fault with Antrim maybe they need to reflect what they are doing to help themselves first!

Whammo the pairing/understanding was agreed by both county boards after the Alec Reid Memorial game earlier in the year.

As far as im aware there was no input from Croke

Sorry where do I say it's someone else's fault.

All I'm saying is Antrim teams need games as much (in fact I'd say more so) as good coaching input.

Yes they should be fulfilling their games at present. Of course they should.

I really don't understand the mentality of people like you who are on here, just waiting to take a shot at some perceived slight or at a target you've got some bitterness towards. It's just such needless antagonism.

Ah gotcha. Fair play.

It'd be good if we did also put in place some sort of partnership with the likes of Dublin.

Hurling in the second tier Leinster counties appears to be getting stronger. I'm sure access to more regular games is only helping them. Antrim need to tap into that more.

I'd also be in favour of an Ulster under 15 competition similar to the Celtic challenge. Say 3 Antrim teams, a couple from Down, Derry, Armagh and then a team from any other county wanting in. Even reach out to North Leinster and North Connacht.

I'm more of a football man having never played hurling but I'd love it to get healthier right across the country.
