Its obviously between Kilbeggan and Ball but any dark horses that could cause an upset? What are the bigger clubs second teams like? Could one of them cause an upset?"
None of the second teams will trouble the top junior teams. Group's 3 & 4 have become a joke with the amount of walkovers. Teams entered knowing full well they'd have no numbers once their first team played a couple of rounds. Any club that gave a walkover (think there have been 4 so far) should be blocked from entering next year, and just merge the two groups with the teams that remain.

Just looking at tables, Lomans, Downs or Shamrocks will top their group.
Looking like Rosemount or Athlone from the other group.
You'd imagine based on recent underage successes that The Downs and Athlone should have strong panels - I believe both fielded 3 league teams. Not sure if they would be good enough to win out the JFC though.
Lomans and Shamrocks would have plenty of players too but possibly more lost to the SFC.

anyone know what way the QF and SF work out in this?

I assume top 2 in group 1 are in SF and 3rd place and top of Group 2 play the teams top of group 3 and 4
Bal and Kilbeggan in SF
CFCW and St.Pauls play Rosemount and The Downs then?

Does 3rd in group 1 get a 1/4 final spot? I'm not so sure. I thought it was 1st and 2nd in group 2 vs 1st from group 3 and 1st from group 4 in the quarters. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Group 1: Top 2 into semi finals, Team 3 into quarters. Team 4 drops down to Group 2 for 2019.
Group 2: Top 2 into quarter finals and whoever finishes top gets promoted to Group 1 for 2019.
Group 3 and group 4 winners play each other for place in quarters (Rosemount v The Downs).
Quarter finals open draw although you'd imagine the top 2 in group 2 are seeded so they don't have to play a third time.
Semi finals are open draw but also seeded to ensure group 1 teams cannot meet.
Simple as that !!

Thanks for clearing that up BigSur.....very simple indeed!! Now any chance you could head over to the "Westmeath hurling 2018" thread and clarify a similar question I posted about senior hurling!!

There is 12 teams in total in groups 3 & 4, so only one team out of the 12 can make a quarter final ?
Seems unfair does it ? If you top your group you should be in a quarter final.

Its all geared towards an actual junior club winning it. Thats why only 1 team comes from groups 3 and 4

Yes, groups 3 and 4 are solely made up of second string teams and the championship is structured so as to only allow one into quarter finals.
Following The Downs win over Rosemount last night, the following are the quarter finals on Sat 15th Sept, assume a double header:
1. St. Paul's v The Downs
2. CFCW v Ballycomoyle
Semi's
Winners of 1 v Kilbeggan
Winners of 2 v Ballynacargy

Final fixed for Sat Sept 29th

Quarter final time this coming Sunday with Pauls v The Downs and C/F/C/W v Ballycomoyle. I'm going with 2 noarrow wins for Pauls and C/F/C/W. Not sure what the Downs are like at this level but i'm sure they'll have plenty of Minors & U21's togged out so they wont be beaten for pace.
Ball and Finea should be interesting with it being a local Derby!!
Any thoughts?

Semi Finals this weekend:
The Downs turned over St Paul's fairly comfortably last weekend which was a bit of a surprise.
You'd imagine Kilbeggan should have enough though to reach the final.
Likewise for title favourites Ballynacargy in the other semi.

Saturday, 22nd September
TEG Cusack Park
JFC Semi-final
Kilbeggan Shamrocks v The Downs, 3.30pm, G Hurley
Linesmen: Barry Kelly, Roy Smyth

Sunday, 23rd September

JFC semi-finals
Ballynacargy v Ballycomoyle, 4pm, K O'Brien
Linesmen: Barry Pierce, Caymon Flynn

Does anyone know how there were six red cards in the Pauls v Downs game? Paper doesn't really go into much detail, The Downs seem to be in control for the whole game. I can't understand how things could escalate that much in a game that wasn't that tight overall.

I'm open for debate here but I honestly would not have called it a dirty game. I thought the ref was a bit heavy handed with the cards to be honest so maybe he should be the . There was a bit of a melee with 10 mins to go when a Pauls player received a kick to the head while lying on the ground but again, I thought it was harmless really. It might be interesting to hear what other spectators thought but as I said, I've seen dirtier games. The Downs to their credit ran all day and were far fitter than the Pauls lads who just couldn't keep up. The Downs always had support runners on the shoulder ready to receive the ball which made it difficult for the Pauls lads to play against.

2 great games in Cusack Park yesterday, a fantastic comeback from Kilbeggan to get over the line. Paul Fennell made the difference in the end along with the number 17 who came on in the first half (not sure of his name).
On a side note I thought €15 in for a junior and intermediate game was a little steep albeit for the great entertainment we got.

Kilbeggan should win the junior now. They have the talent and a very good trainer

Yea, maybe I should have phrased it better. What I meant was that this was one incident towards the end of the game, the game in general was harmless, i.e. not dirty at all. The kick in the head? Well, only the lad who kicked him will know if he meant it or not. I'd be disappointed if someone deliberately kicked another player in the head while he was lying on the ground or am i being a bit too naiive?
