Your argument is idealistic but fatally flawed I'm afraid. What motivation would a county have to raise sponsorhip if they had to give a large chunk of it way to the competition? There'd be less money in the GAA. By your rationale countries with the biggest population should be dominating soccer (I use soccer as it is the biggest sport in the world) and Dublin would be picking up AI Hurling titles on a regular basis (Kilkenny pop: 95,000). Of the top 10 countries by population in the world only Brazil have ever even competed in a WC Final

Although funding does need to be spread out more, the reality is that many counties problems are that they have incompetent county boards. Most counties don't even have a set way of playing football at all grades. I know in my own county, the amount of mistakes made, could fill a book. The top counties may have far more money available, but they are also doing things the right way, which cant be said for many of the weaker counties. For the love of God.......please make it stop! Yeah...... its all Dublins fault! Anybody with a brain will know Dublin is underfunded. But sadly these boards are agenda driven. So lets all blame Dublin. If Dublin withdrew teams from the Leinster and All Ireland series for a decade, 3 trends would emerge. 1......less money for EVERYBODY. 2......Kerry and Kilkenny would hoover up All Irelands. 3.......the smaller counties, without money, would have less money and still cant compete. But......sure its all Dublins fault. JayP (Dublin) - Posts: 1772 - 22/07/2017 12:35:30 2020861 Link 0 |
The truth is obviously hurting there. It's not dublins fault it's the fault of the GAA that has pumped money in to Dublin to spread the game but forgot to plan for the day when Gaelic football would become the biggest sport in Dublin. Here are a few facts for you: Dublin has bigger playing numbers (both under age and adult than the province of Connaught. It gets the same funding from central funds as the entire province of Connaught. It has a significantly larger population than Connaught and this will continue for the foreseeable future. Their 16 senior clubs are stronger than the top 16 senior clubs in Connaught. Face the reality - if the GAA were to operate as other sports do - Dublin would be treated the same as a province, never mind split in two. They could easily field 5 county teams (like Connaught) and have 5 county championships of a standard 50% of counties would struggle to match. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1126 - 22/07/2017 14:29:41 2020919 Link 0 |
