New Senior Manager

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Heard a bit of Colin Kelly's interview on 103.
Looking for selectors from within the county with possibly one 'outsider'
Surprising (or is it) that just one name gets ratified as opposed to a full management team, now he has to go looking for lads.
I'm sure he had a few lined up but wouldn't declare until he got the gig.
Anyway, the speculation continues but all the very best to him.

Lads I think Colin Kelly will bring the good times back to Westmeath. But we have to be patient. I just hope he brings a backroom team that demands more from players. No success from underage means f all. Hopefully we'll see more young players in the senior that want to play for their county.

Bring the good times back to Westmeath under cribbin Westmeath got into two leinster finals, defeated Meath, won a game in croke park for the first time since 04

Feel sorry for Kelly, this is an impossible task and he will find it really hard to get a good coaching staff as most of the best coaches in the county would simply not be interested. Also think it will be impossible to match what cribbin did

If getting trashed in two Leinster Finals, Beating the worst Meath team in 50 years are the good times ye are easily pleased fans with very low expectations.

Reagrdless of how bad that meath team was they still were the first team to beat them im more than sure there was bad meath teams before that WESTMEATH couldnt beat, so dont take away from that achievment. Also trashings or not they only got to leinster finals on 3 other occasions in the history of the GAA. Why are people so quick to put our senior team down on this? i cant understand on some one would say bring the good times back under kelly ? over the last 3 years they gave supporters 7 outtings in croke park are they not good times ? or can some explain what good times are to me ?

You would think we were a sleeping giant or something the way people talk.
I have to laugh that Cribben is blamed for being trashed by Dublin. Dublin are trashing everyone in the country in Championship bar Mayo and everyone knows that so what are you on about.
I would agree about bad displays in qualifiers 100% but then again with the previous manager to Cribben we couldn't win Leinster championship games and that was what was asked of Cribben and we did that under him. Also good luck to Kelly but his championship record with Louth isn't very good and I don't think there's any good displays against Dublin in it either.

I was backing people like John Keane, Alan Mangan, Martin Flanagan, all who have dipped there toes in management at this stage, yet I got shot down by many. Now I see Bonnar in Donegal is taking on Lacey who has only retired from football in August as a selector, having no experience at all with running a team, and their getting praised from a height for taking the chance.

Chops, i dont think anyone would object to any of those lads being a selector or as a coach. What was being objected to was the notion that these guys should get the manager role with little or no experience or success at club level in a manager role.

I don't think you're correct on 1 of those names.

James Duignan played with Garrycastle (and may still be playing) and I'd say with the county at some stage, but I may be wrong. He managed Moate this year.

Kilbeggan, not Moate. He finished playing with Garrycastle a few years ago but was an integral part of their team for years. Anybody asking who he is clearly watches no club football. I dont remember him every playing county senior, but he was definetly on the u21 team around 2001/2002.
