Football Top 10

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With the Football championship getting near the business end there haven't been too many surprise results (with the exception of Downs emergence and Galway Roscommon in Connacht) however there is a long way to go and I would expect a few twists before the end of September. With that in mind who do people see as the top 10 Football teams at the moment. Mine would be:
1.Dublin
2.Kerry
3.Tyrone
4.Mayo
5,Down
6.Roscommon
7.Monaghan
8.Donegal
9.Galway
10.Kildare.

I'm sure people will have their own opinion on this and I expect this to change over the next few weeks but this is the way I see it now

Kind of pointless doing this mid season. ONE game changes everything. Look at how Galway are viewed compared to this time last week. Likewise Down no and beginning of the season. Mayo were written off back in June but only one win away from a possible quarter final.

Yep completely agree with this.

Down at no 5 in the OP is flat out weird at this point in time too.

Not to mention the ridiculously fickle nature of how people view Tyrone. At the start of the league and particularly after drawing against Dublin, they were unbeatable outside of Kerry and Dublin according to a lot of people here. Indeed they were being talked of as being the only team capable of beating Dublin. Then a few bad results towards the end of the league and according to some they were no hopers. Now they are back to being one of the big favourites again.

I agree but the point of this is to see how things do change over the next few weeks. I wouldn't expect anyone will have the same top 10 at the end of the season as they have now

Yes I'd 100% agree with that

Kerry are #1

They are the NFL Div 1 champions after beating Dublin in what was a very competitive game played at championship pace

Kerry have earned their #1 and in doing so did whatever it took to hold out for the win..

Now it's up to the rest to try their best to take it away

I love the way Roscommon are suddenly the bees knees, same for down.

Kerry are not number 1.

2 AI wins in a row and 4 in 6 tops a 1 point win in an NFL final.

Tyrone can't be considered alongside Kerry and Dublin until they've beaten 1 of them in Championship. Is it 2008 since that happened?

At the end of last year it was Dublin way ahead of Kerry and Mayo who were ahead of the pack.

I'd say all that's changed this year is Kerry have tightened the gap to Dublin a little.

Mayo have dropped back into the pack for now but we'll see how the rest of the qualifiers go.

Tyrone, Kildare, Roscommon we're not really sure where they should be.

Donegal, Monaghan and Cavan probably aren't as good as their league form suggested

Galway don't appear to be serious All Ireland challengers yet.

Roscommon are Connacht Champions and therefore there on merit. The list that counts though is the one at the end of September

They'll still be Connacht Champions! In fairness they've a lot more to offer in this years championship. People saying they're small and light. Better to be small and light with great attacking skills, confidence and no pressure and a very astute manager than to be big and strong and fearful and defensive. A top 10 before September is premature but I don't know why anyone would rank Roscommon behind us our Galway for this years championship.
