Cusack is right the public have no way of relating to the players and with helmets there is no recognition. Players need helmets when playing but not during parades. No helmets during parades and close up shots on large screen in the grounds and on television for a start. More access in pre shows to the team players before games and stop managers from controlling this. If interviewers or pundits try to take advantage of this by trapping non experienced interviewees into saying something that gets them in trouble ban them. Yes the sport should have the right to protect itself from presenters and should have the right to censor what is not in the best interest of the game.

There is a bit of a misunderstanding of Clare nationally. People think that Clare is a hurling mad county......

East Clare is, no question about it, from Clonlara into Ennis and the surroundings are hurling mad, altho football is strong in Meelick and Cratloe.

But....go out west to Spanish Point, Kilkee, Lisdoonvarna, Ennistymon, Kilmihill that side and there isnt a hurley to be seen. Footbal is king and by a mile king.
There was a huge Clare crowd at the football game in ennis the day before, that may well have impacted the crowd that travelled to Thurles.

People outside the locality just assume Clare is a mad hurling county, and to be honest, apart from strongholds in East Clare its really not.

The population density is a lot higher in East Clare than West Clare. Ennis and surrounding areas which have the highest population are primarily hurling areas. West Clare is much more sparsely populated, and Kilrush would be the football area there.

Yes, if history has thought us anything, it's that censorship always works and benefits everyone.
