Sur why not Pinkie we're getting all the easy draws with home advantage so would be nice to keep the trend going!! Alas we're out of our comfort zone now anyway you shud know my post was a wind up!! WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 10/07/2017 18:08:44 2014345 Link 0 |
Yeah, its the first time in 20 years that a non-replay Quarter-final will be a standalone fixture (only happened once before, the first year we had QF's in 1997). Even when there were 4 quarter-finals, they were played as 2 double headers. I've actually nothing against playing them as standalone matches, but 3pm on a Saturday? Not a good idea. That said, maybe the novelty of the new Stadium will bring in a few thousand extra, so it may get over 20,000. Maybe not. We'll see. It's a strange auld time alright. A lot of fans will be working a half day on Saturday too so will probably watch it on tv. TV rules the roost now. Having the games over two days is a desperate attempt to make as much money as possible out of it. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 10/07/2017 18:22:52 2014354 Link 0 |
Yeah Pinkie. Can we not have all Tipp Hurling games in Thurles from now on? You are such a spoil sport.

Re, the Saturday game, I wonder why they're playing it so early in the day, rather than at 5pm or 7pm, like they usually do with Saturday games? It looks like they have impressive floodlights in PUC, not that they'd even be needed at this time of year. Marlon_JD (Tipperary) - Posts: 1823 - 10/07/2017 21:43:18 2014526 Link 0 |
Must be a TV driven reason for it.

That's my thinking TV related. I'll head down myself to see the new venue just for the novelty last time we played in Cork during the championship was Munster final in 2012 hard to believe. Last time we played Clare there in 03 they hockeyed us. Was hoping game be in Limerick but sur road trip to Cork do no harm. God. 2003 was the beginning of the end for that Tipp team. They lost of the 10 goal league final thriller to Kilkenny was the start of it. Clare gave us a right good pasting that day. I'd say they are purposely having the games over two days in the hope fans will travel for the novelty factor. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 11/07/2017 01:10:34 2014652 Link 0 |
btw, does anyone know if the SFs are already set up - Cork v Wexf / Waterf and Galw v Clare / Tipp ? omahant (USA) - Posts: 2626 - 11/07/2017 03:46:07 2014664 Link 0 |
It is stupid playing Tipp Clare at 3pm on Saturday, why not play it at 7? I am sure it is TV related. Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 11/07/2017 08:50:42 2014698 Link 1 |
The reason I presume its on at 3 is that Sky are showing 2 live football qualifiers at 5 and 7. mon (Galway) - Posts: 675 - 11/07/2017 12:35:15 2014863 Link 0 |
Wait till Michael Duignan hears about this!! Could they not play it on Sunday at 2 in Limerick then? Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 11/07/2017 13:00:42 2014892 Link 0 |

It's a joke lads. God help any hurling fans in Clare or Tipp who work on Saturdays.

Beyond silly having the Tipp/Clare game @3! Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1415 - 11/07/2017 13:32:14 2014925 Link 0 |
Id say the GAA gave Pairc Ui Chaoimh the the 2 quarterfinals to cushion the blow of not being able to hold any of the Munster Finals.

It shouldn't be about a "cushion" though. It is not people in any of the 4 counties fault that Cork couldn't have their stadium ready in time. Yet we are the ones who have to pay, it is a joke that Clare and Tipp are playing on Saturday afternoon and they are rightly outraged.
