You cant have seen too much of him play when your from Westmeath. Ridiculous selection maybe in ten years time he might be but jesus give the young lad a break theres enough pressure on him"
Just to let you know i am a blowin

I'm going to be a little bit hipster here and go for Paddy Bradley of Derry.

He was a brilliant finisher, could score from anywhere.

Football:
Goalkeeper: Cluxton
Defender: Darren Fay
Midfield: Tohill
Forward: Michael Donnellan (peak years)

Overall I would say Cluxton.
Quiet possible the Dubs would have a 1-2 all Irelands less without him.

Hurling
DJ Carey

Replying To TheHermit:  "So hard to choose a footballer even if your just picking from the Kerry lads alone: Maurice Fitz, Moynihan, the three O'Se's, Galvin, Donaghy, Gooch, O'Donoghue - but I'm going to go for Declan O'Sullivan. He's performance in the 'quarter back' role in 2014 Munster final alone was perhaps the best display I've ever witnessed first hand of any Kerry player.

My non Kerry choice would be Sean Cavanagh, in his prime around 2008 he was immense.

As for hurling, think it would have to be John Mullane with an honorable mention to Shefflin, Tommy Wlash and hell let's face it, probably every member of the Cats team from 2006-2009!!!"
Mullane? Good man Hermit, that's why ye lads should stick to the big ball :D

No Hermit everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that's his, we don't have to agree with each other on this thread, it's personal choice!

I can't believe no one has said Brian Whelahan from Offaly for hurling. Without doubt he is the best hurler I've seen play the game. I'm lucky to have seen him play several times in person.

For football I have to pick Martin Flanagan from Westmeath. Unlucky not to pick up a Leinster in 2004. A similar player to Maurice Fitzgerald but from a smaller county so many wouldn't have heard of him.

Eh, I'm not the one saying that anyone picking Sean Cavanagh as a possible choice doesn't know his football!! So think you should direct that comment to the Tyrone poster above who I was responding to.

Ah Hermit, there's nothing wrong with Mullane, he's as passionate a hurler as you're ever likely to see, just skill wise he wouldn't lace the boots of most of the lads mentioned above. I mean, how could you possibly say was better than Shefflin, Walsh or Carey?

Ok from looking through the posts, the general consensus for hurling is DJ Carey. There is a wider number of picks for football and there doesn't seem to be a clear winner between Cooper, Cavanagh and Canavan. Didn't expect to be hearing names I've never heard of before. Anyone who knows who sack walsh is, answers on a postcard. The Galway and Wexford posters seem to be more tribal with their picks! Maybe the adrenaline is still pumping from last Sunday!

Matt Connor of Offaly is the best footballer I've ever seen.A career cut short by a car accident but he was a phenomenal talent.
