Colm Cooper in football. Favourite footballer was Maurice Fitzgerald but never saw him live unfortunately. Best hurler I saw live was Dj Carey. Buzz of expectation in the crowd whenever he got the ball was palpable and I've never heard it recreated even with the likes of Shefflin, Corbett, Callinan etc. Saw a facebook clip of Tommy Walsh highlights the other night and I forgot how good he was in his prime. One of the highlights was a double pirouette around two Tipp defenders while doing a Chunky O'Brien ball hop so as not to overcarry. Scarcely believable stuff.

Jack O Shea was the best overall footballer I ever saw. He could catch a ball under his own crossbar , and finish it the other end. He had everything. Speed, power, skill, class. He was the complete player.
DJ Carey was the best hurler I saw.

Tommy Walsh is the best hurler I've ever seen , don't remember him ever playing a bad game.
Ciaran McDonald from Mayo was as good as any footballer that ever played, the guy had skill to burn.

David Clifford is the best footballer you have ever saw from what like watching him play in the All Ireland minor final last year and reading a few reports in the paper? You cant have seen too much of him play when your from Westmeath. Ridiculous selection maybe in ten years time he might be but jesus give the young lad a break theres enough pressure on him

Henry Shefflin in hurling.

2012 1/4 final, tom Condon stuck to him like glue, Tom tried everything. Henry got free once and lobbed the ball over a diving Nicky Quaid. Thought first it was a mis hit, but when I saw it on the Sunday game the touch of class & genius was evident. Also saw him in Croker in 2004 when Waterford changed goalkeeper right before the game and Henry was one of the ruthless forwards who exploited that, scoring after a big ball was lobbed in & he got one touch to beat the keeper. A true genius of a hurler.

Stephen O'Neill of Tyrone in football.

I attended the drawn Dublin v Tyrone game in 2005. Mulligan got that famous goal but Stephen O'Neill's point scoring on the day was breathtaking. It was a case of 'no way is he trying this' to seeing the umpire reach for the flag. Gifted footballer.

Maybe not many here saw Canavan live. I did and I'd still rate Cavanagh over him. Canavan was an absolutely class forward and a leader. Cavanagh could lead and play practically every position on the field to a high level and has kept Tyrone at the top table for many a long year. We'll never see the likes of him again.

Best footballer i saw play live was Peter Canavan. Best footballing display I saw in a particular game was Ciaran McDonald v Dublin in 2006 AI semi-final.
Henry Shefflin or Joe Canning probably the best hurlers I've seen live. Think I'd have to pick Canning if put to the pinch.

Football:

- Tie between Ja Fallon 95-2003 and Mikky Donnellan 98-2005 were pretty amazing to watch, game winner but with a class that just stood out on the field of play

Hurling:

- The original JC, Joe Cooney stands out a bloody mile!

brian whelehan he was the perfect hurler in every way. and never pulled a dirty stroke in his life.
the gooch he done things that were scarcely believable with a ball. one goal against mayo stands out.he jumped for the ball with his back to goal, landed facing the goal and bang.green flag

Joe Canning - hurling

Football is so hard - within Donegal I've obviously seen a lot of football. In terms of scarcely believable skill I'd go for Colm McFadden. Some of the scores I've seen him get for St Michaels over the years have defied physics!

Overall I'd have to say Peter Canavan. A truly remarkable player. His son is coming through at minor level now. Definitely a player worth keeping an eye on.
