Wexford v Monaghan

wexcore. Thanks for that. I'm afraid Wexford football fell victim of a managers personal agenda rather than what is best for the team, essentially an opportunity wasted, no point saying any different. The future for Wexford football is about setting up good academies for 14 year old upwards and developing them for all the aspects required for modern day football. This should be done by real football men within the county. it's the only way us (yes us) smaller counties will compete
SamOnErrigal. Sure we are all guilty of it from time to time mainly because there is something to be gained from it. That is the problem it is not punished enough, when you look at it in comparison to the Connolly incident. There should be severe retrospective punishment for targeting, sledging etc.
Regarding ourselves and the rest of the championship, I would be disappointed if we don't reach the Q/Finals this year, However next year I expect us to be challenging for the big one with forwards of McManus, McCarron, McGinn, Freeman, McCarthy, McAnespie, Carey, Ward, Duffy, Bannigan to choose from and there are a couple of U21 lads of note to come in, we should have the scoring power together with the already solid defence and hard workers needed to challenge for Sam. We dare to dream.
I can see a few battles with yourselves ahead

Yeah it seemed pretty clear that Wexford targeted McManus for some extra treatment, and when he finally retaliated it was him that got the black card so mission accomplished. But it was a bit shortsighted as although he didn't score, everyone else were helping themselves and the game was over really by the time McManus went off, 2 defenders popped up for goals when he was being watched so close! You sometimes see McManus criticized for "buying" frees and the like, but could you honestly blame him when you look at the treatment he's gotten over the last couple of games for example, and most of it going unpunished. This goes for the top players of all counties, better officiating is needed.

Routine enough win but good to get a big win with a large spread of scorers. We were expected to win sure, but that was the case against Longford last year and look how that turned out. We've an awful record in the qualifiers lately so it was important to get a win like that, we could now possibly go on a run and get back to the quarter finals with a bit of momentum. Alot more work to do though and the games will only get tougher.

Replying To SamOnErrigal:  "Good post and indeed it is the one thing in Gaelic football that need addressing
There should be no such thing as targeting any player , marquee player or not
It has been going on for years and it's one thing I would like to see addressed We are all guilty, my own county included and usually the man who starts it get off while the player who gets abused is carded
Anyway away from thatMonaghan must have been quite impressive , I fancy ye to win your next game so you could have a quarter final v losers in Leinster( maybe Dublin maybe not ) but ye can't meet Down no matter how they do nextSunday I think Monaghan will make the semi finals and so far has been a good year for Ulster teams with 5 still in the haunt
Best of luck to ye"
Actually Monaghan now have a decent chance of meeting Down again and I'd prefer that as the last 12 option. If both Monaghan and Armagh win next weekend and Down lose to Tyrone then it will be an open draw for the round 4B qualifiers as both Monaghan and Armagh have faced Down before.
But let's worry about Carlow first.
