Meath vs Donegal

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Just home from the game. Exciting contest and well done both teams for that.

Meath crowd very vocal and boisterous, great atmosphere.

Meath will feel hard done by. The score to win the game was fantastic. The run by Ryan McHugh was superb, he cut through 4 players to make he angle for Paddy McBrearty whose finish was sublime. Donegal showed real composure in that regard.

Still some of the old failings from Donegal but a much improved display in many areas. I wish we would run at teams more directly instead of laterally.. When we do we are dangerous. The pace we have is huge. Needs to be utilised more. Defensively there just isn't enough physicality and the looseness we have at times is not good enough if we are to be a top level team.

Michael Murphy was our driving force tonight but Ryan McHugh's final 10 minutes was the winning of the game. When he really drove at Meath they couldn't handle him and he was clinical. A great plus to see him back in form.

Only downside was the massive delay in Aughnacloy on the way home because some band were playing up and down the street as they have a big gig coming up on the 12th or something..

Ref did his best to keep Meath in it. Improved performances from Ryan McHugh, Ban and Jason McGee. Caolan Ward looks like a serious man marker."
lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bit down after the defeat but that comment at the end made me laugh out loud! Thank you. Best of luck to Donegal going forward.

Meath just need to take this on the chin and take some belief from it going forward.

Totally agree. With the system Donegal employ they are not fully utilising their best assets. When they ran directly at Tyrone in the semi final they caused them real problems, but too often as you say they revert to lateral passing. Only a change in mind set or management is going to rectify this.

When stuck in Aughnacloy you should have made an effort to get a closer look at the band and listen to their 'all inclusive celebrations'. I am sure they would be very welcoming to people in southern reg cars with Donegal tops on.

At least we went down fighting this time, donegals big game players mcbearty mchugh and Murphy were the difference in the end Meath just don't have them type of players yet, the ref was poor and appeared to make allot of poor decisions that cost both sides, be interesting to see the Sunday game tonight especially on donegals dissallowed goal and meaths call for a free at the end, best of luck to Donegal for the rest of the year they have a young team and games like that will bring them on a ton

I think he is referring to the try Joe Sheridan scored a few years ago against Louth.

7 years ago. So are we to all hope every call goes against Down in ulster final to make up for the square ball that knocked Kildare out In all ire semi final same year?

Apparently because of a decision we had no control over 7 years ago we must accept all decisions no matter what !! I remember the dubs getting a handy free to beat Kildare a few years ago but sure dont worry about that !!

not sure if the goal should have been given or not,but all the officials missea a blatant shove from murphy that lead to the goal. menton went up for the ball, murphy behind him and shoved him. happened again at the end of the game were they got a score from.

I am a Tyrone man living in Down so fingers crossed Down don't get all the decisions in their favour. Having read your previous posts I am pretty sure this is the only thing I will ever agree with you on - but yes Down did score a square ball goal against Kildare.

Haha absolutely. We decided to pump the dance music up loud on 2FM with the windows down to add our own flavour to it when we finally got moving down the Main Street in Aughnacloy. Local reactions suggested to me that we didn't quite fit in.

Perplexing decision to disallow the goal.

But you seem to be referring to game 7 year's ago (that was a bad call by a.ref, ) (should have been a penalty prior to goal)/
That we should never question a.call against us, what about the hair toss that lead to dramatic dive, does that mean that a opposing team can kick the c*ap out of every Tyrone player and shouldn't get a card as it evens out the hair toss?

Didn't have a clear look at it. But Murphy push (twice ) was there to be seen by all.

Wasnt a single person around me in the ground that could understand the decision.
