Meath vs Donegal

Meath have better footballers than kildare but it didn't help.

royaldunne (Meath) - Posts:11585 - 04/07/2017

You've certainly been hiding them well if that's the case.

Unless it's your manager who's letting you down? But that couldn't be the case with the best manager McAuley ever played under in charge could it?

:)

Anyways, expect whoever comes through a tight one here to build up a bit of steam and reach a quarter final. Unless Roscommon step it up a few levels against Galway and go into the fourth round with a good performance in the Connacht final behind them you'd expect either Meath or Donegal to be able to account for them or Cork.

Donegal could have one last hurrah in them as they go through a bit of a rebuilding phase, Meath could do with a big performance to add some light to what's probably been a disappointing year so far for some fans.

If that statement is a reflection of how all people in Meath feel about the current team then I would seriously worry for the future of Meath football. Massive changes needed in the royal county

Just to be clear, Royaldunne is the only person in Meath who believes we have better footballers than Kildare. And that includes the Meath footballers themselves.

Donegal could still be carrying a hangover from Ulster but this may be just what they need an away trip straight knockout against one of the former giants of the game. A good win here may turn them around and I would expect them to get it by 4 points.

I think it is a deeper problem than a hang over from ulster.

1 We are a young side and the championship is starting to expose the gulf between league intensity and championship.
2 The tactics we continue to use are not working yet we persist in using them.
3 Morale would seem to be low judging by body language of players and the lack of intensity in the tackle etc.
4 There is a lack of confidence in everything that we are doing so far in the championship.

The only thing that seems to redeem our chances on Saturday would be that meath are in a similar predicament to us. They have lost their football identity and are stuck between playing a tactic of short passing and ultra defensiveness or abandoning it. I think that the players are hell bent on doing this, but the management are too afraid to do this.

Saturday could be an interesting game, but I would be very surprised to see either team around in a months time.

Expecting and hoping are two entirely different things.

Well we will just have to see. I mean whoever remains in championship longer, I think will prove who is right.

Dont think its looking good, that been said doubt he would have started. Jones would be a massive loss. Young Conlon could be a great introduction.
The one conundrum that Andy has regarding players is Newman, does he start? Or Wai until second half? Doubtful he has 70 minutes in him yet.
As graham Reilly said its great to have so many players pushing for a place, first time he can recall that.

Meath 0-12
Donegal 0-11.
Total mule of a game for neutral, but Meath to out Donegal, Donegal. 15 men behind the ball each team very little open space (apart from midfield).
Well that's my prediction :)

Hard one to call but it may be a case of the old dog for the hard road. Donegal have experience, some marquee players and of course Murphy. However, the venue, Navan, may be a leveler. Still think Donegal's experience will tell in the final quarter though and they may run out winners by 2-3 points.

Post of the year!

How far must you think Andy is out of his depth if you genuinely believe the above?!

Donegal should win this handy if they're up for it. They are a division one side and have the experience and know how to get past a division two side who people can't wait to call an emerging force despite no evidence that they actually are. Donegal by 5 or 6.

Haha, jaysus fair play to you its refreshing to see a lad from a county not be afraid to call a spade a spade and not play the
County man. I don't think Meath are nearly good enough to account for Donegal at this point but sometimes love is blind.

Two poor teams , Donegal in free fall , normally I'd side with Donegal but I've a sneaking suspicion that they may be undone this weekend
