Mayo vs Clare

Replying To dubshurling7:  "Brendan Harrison deserves a big ban for the incident at the end with Keelan Sexton, in no way defending Sexton but the manoeuvre he pulled would have been expected in a wrestling ring and not on a GAA pitch . Extremely dangerous lifting him and throwing him to the ground . It this was in rugby where body tackles are accepted it would be a four week ban . Disgraceful by Harrison and no regard to safety when the game was well over nothing against Harrison but if this is accepted it sets an unacceptable precedent where players can be lifted and dump tackled and only receive a black card."
Looking for someone to be ban, any Mayo player. Two lads involved in this incident half of one and both of the other. Both player wear dangerous in their actions but sure you just want the Mayo player banned. Stick to the small ball lad

Mayo seem to be warming up slowly, still doing the business.

Bad luck Clare.

Replying To neverright:  "Thought the Clare player could have done serious damage to Harrison's neck by failing to release his grip. Very dangerous."
Where do you expect his hands to be when he's lifted in the air? If he doesn't grab his neck he could have ended up seriously hurt himself

Replying To Belclare1:  "Mayo impressive in second half for periods, but as usual people getting carried away. Derry Div 3 , Clare div 2, yet they are so inconsistent during games. I expect them to win the next day but the step up at q final level will finish them.."
Who is getting carried away? Mayo according to everyone are struggling yet got over the line comfortably. Not to be sneered at but nobody getting carried away. Dublin or Kerry still beat them handy on that form. Everyone else is beatable.

Replying To 890202:  "5 reasons in the rules to give black cards. These must happen during play. Off the ball incidents are dealt with in a separate section. So let's see, was it:
1. Deliberate body colide? No
2. Deliberate trip? No
3. Deliberate pull down? No
4. Verbal abuse to opponent or team mate? No
5. Remonstrating with match official? No

Referee bottled it, like he bottled giving the clare wing back a 2nd yellow earlier in the game for a high tackle once he realised he was already on a yellow"
You are incorrect when you say that these infractions must take place in open play - they don't!!!

So what way does it work now? Are Mayo in Kerry's half and Monaghan are in ours, that's the impression I'm getting here. That'll be some game if it happens, if Kerry get over that one they'll be very hard to stop!
Monaghan will also test Dublin big time if THAT game happens. Be gas though if Dublin end up going through the back door, where would they pop up then?

They deal with cynical "play" not off the ball incidents

Replying To The_Fridge:  "Just seen 4 Clare players smiling and dying to swap jerseys with the "star" Mayo players after getting beat.
What the hell are they at?? Second half performance was dire. Showed far to much respect for Mayo. They won't go far with that attitude.
People may think I'm been harsh but do they want to go too the next level? That game was there for Clare to win.
Agin no disrespect to Mayo, they won and fair play to them"
Agree, can't believe I saw few of the banner lads laughing with their counterparts coming off the pitch. They need to seriously flush out the old "ah sure arent we doing grand stuf", stupid mistakes gave Mayo a handy path back into the game and they kicked on.

Clare regroup and pledge to drive on,enough talent there to win a Munster title on yer day

The lad started something he couldn't finish. Better luck next time.

Another J & H show from Mayo. First half just not at the races, lacking intensity and again easily run at through the middle. Forwards were very casual with the ball and looked clueless at times. Second was a complete turnaround, with visible committment by the lads to win every ball and tackle. Clare showed a lot of what they're capable of in that first half and have genuine pace in every line. There's no reason they can't keep improving. Mayo were very good when they switched on and thankfully they did this earlier than the previous week, but it's still erratic, which reminds me of the ref. Whenever he blew the whistle you hadn't the slightest idea what was going to happen and which way a decision would go. All in all it was a good challenge for Mayo who'll likely play Cork in the next game, assuming the Rossies eat timber and beat Galway today.

Not totally right either.

To threaten or to use abusive or provocative language or gestures to an opponent or teammate.

To remonstrate in an aggressive manner with a Match Official..

Both hardly cynical??

To deliberately pull down an opponent.
To deliberately trip an opponent with hand(s),arm, leg or foot

Neither has to be on the ball to incur the black card!!!

Ref could have sent off Cian O'Dea but he let Conor Loftus away who also on yellow card moments before.

I agree here. You can deliberately pull someone down off the ball which is what Harrison did.

Clare burnt themselves out in the first half and should have been further ahead at half time. I wasnt too impressed with Mayos overall performance but I suppose they got the job done.

A few comments on match:

Harrison should get at least 12 weeks for "spear tackle" on Sexton (who was no angel in the incident).

Clare lost Cathal O'Connor to injury (happened late in 1st half but came out for second and couldn't continue) and as he was having a super game control of midfield fell to Mayo on his departure.

Mayo's first goal was a harry karry moment for Clare and unfortunately their heads dropped. This goal, combined with O'Connor's departure, was the turning point of the game. Garry Brennan was having an off day all through the game and so midfield was turned over to Mayo and thus a quick second goal secured Mayo's win.

Mayo had six attacks in the first 15 minutes which resulted in one point and five wides (two from very scorable frees). This is their Achilles heel as they just not good enough up front.

Was impressed with Aidan O'Shea yesterday and as usual Lee Keegan was sublime.

Mayo now set up for a major fall against Kerry or Dublin.

Huge Mayo contingent travelled to Ennis with many making a weekend out of it so great craic out and about the town last night with most pubs well populated with Elvery jersies.

Ye'r on the Monaghan tipp side no matter if ye win or lose Leinster realdub, the only disadvantage to losing Leinster is ye'd have one extra game.

On our side of the draw there is Donegal Mayo and they will play Cork and the losers from today's Connacht final in round 4 in 2 weeks time as far as I know.

More Mayo than Clare at the match. Clare footballers have a very small but loyal following like the footballers of Limerick. It's a lonely furrow they plod.
Mayo are improving and will improve more. They are very solid and I think their foward play improved as the game went on.
The 'lift tackle on Sexton was a thing of nothing. In club rugby the two of them would be allowed 'puck' out their disagreement and play would continue. The GAA has a quasi soccer attitude in that guys come flooding over. Those are the guys who should be carded.

We'll play Cork so. We can't play Galway again this soon.
