Excellent display by Westmeath while most of the young kids ran towards Tipperary players for autographs etc I shook most of the westmeath players hands and congratulated them on a fine effort.
Can't believe Tipp are gone so backwards since the Galway game first minute Tipp have been woeful.
Looks like another All Ireland has gone to our head. All Ireland champions will be out this day week and we don't deserve to be in a quarter final.
Something is not right with this Tipp team you don't go from beating the best team in country by 9 points to been flat for 3 big profile games thereafter.Tipp have yet to start hurling properly this year no performance put together yet maybe they know something we don't!!

The present westmeath team is better than offaly ,only for shane dooley and goalie mistakes westmeath would have won comfortably. As regards teams punching above their weight westmeath are doing so but they need better games in the spring. As regards tipp they only know themselves if they went through the motions or not..but tgey did seem in trouble and two players could have seen the line also"
I agree that the league system is very messy and holds counties like Carlow and Westmeath back. The league system suits the stronger counties. The entire fixture set up, running of the competitions suits top tier counties and the likes of Westmeath Carlow, Kerry etc must bat on and fend for themselves. I give them credit for that.

Westmeath and Offaly may be going in opposite directions but right now the league placings (flawed as they are) and head-to head (regardless of who could or should have won) do not suggest that Westmeath are better than Offaly.

We do have to look at games like this and see if a chance of promoting in this case hurling in Westmeath. A few years ago I remember Longford going to Kerry o play them in qualifiers. If that was in Longford it would have being at massive marketing cue for gaa in Longford. Like wise if Dublin had gone to Carlow or mulingar in this years competition. The profile of the game in those counties would be brilliant. If a team we say are are number 1 or 2 in country in relation to football or hurling can't travel to carlow or Mullingar and win, they will be found later by stronger teams"
Very poorly made point regarding Longford. There was far more Longford people in Kerry than would have fit in pearse park and they all enjoyed the weekend in Kerry

let Westmeath have their moment in the sun. If we get knocked out next week, we can have a right good bitch and moan then.

Westmeath are genuinely building something here. I'm surprised that Michael Ryan (Westmeath manager) is not well like by some Westmeath clubs. He was a fine track record at preparing teams and is a shrewd hurling man. I knew he would relish the challenge of hatching a plan for Tipp.

I hope Westmeath push on from here and go to the next level. Promotion to 1b is crucial next Spring.

We were not hammered today we lost by nine points hardly a hammeeing in hurling terms and with a little luck would have been level after 55 minutes. TIPP were clearly a better team but Westmeath were excellent

Thanks Jobber. Yeah keep Ryan and get Moran involved with him if he isn't already.

What is vitally important for Westmeath is that they get their young fellas playing Fitzgibbon cup. Obviously if it was with one of the big teams of recent years like LIT, UL, Mary I, CIT or UCC that would be great but good Fitzgibbon teams like UCG and Maynooth are literally a short drive away.

UCC have saved Cork Hurling. That's where all these really good young stars this year came from.

Fair play to the Westmeath hurlers for putting up to Tipp for so much of the match yesterday They deserve a lot of credit for their performance.
No wonder Tipp wouldn't agree to switching the game to Mullingar. ;o)

Westmeath need to now drive on next season. They have an excellent manager on board who will continue to improve them.

As for Tipp, well this is exactly what they would have needed and is sure to put them back on track. A very easy 1 sided win for them yesterday would have done them no good at all.

there are better coaches than them in the county, they just won't go near the current setup of the county board

clubs in westmeath are fed up of the poor mouth routine

some players in westmeath won't give the commitment as they don't think the setup is good enough"
Do you ever stop giving out Valley?
