Tipperary V Westmeath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Real Westmeath hurling supporters will be far happier to get a chance to see their team playing in Semple I'm sure. Maybe I'm wrong.
The GAA probably should have given home advantage to the Westmeath and Laois but I'm sure they'll learn from it!!!
If we had drawn KK away having played them away in 2013 I'm sure we'd be complaining too.
Regarding the game itself and no disrespect to Westmeath but its the draw I didn't want. I was hoping to get KK and if not Dublin. Its most definitely a no win game for Tipp and nothing will be learned from it. Where as if KK win regardless of the performance they'll learn plenty as will Limerick if they win

Great question, as far as I know at least 10 were on the senior panel last year. Hopefully someone from Westmeath will answer this question for us.

Tipp team named few debuts for championship but not unfamiliar names. Noel McGrath midfield is a surprise.

Let the battle of the Michael Ryan's commence!!
Has there ever been a game where the opposing managers have had the same name!!

I remember a minor football match between Tipp and Kerry back in 2005 or 2006 and 2 opposing players marking each other had the same name!!

With regards to u21 players on the starting 15 id say roughly around 5 to 6 u21s will start. Thats one thing Michael Ryan has done for westmeath hurling, he has made up a panel with a young average age and hopefully it reaps benefits in the future as the lads get more Liam McCarthy cup experience.
On a side note for others westmeath hurling people, I feel the panel westmeath have now is good but why do so many exceptional club players not play with the county? I could name a good few players from Raharney and Clonkill (and other clubs) that are top quality inter county standard but will not play?

I think Tipp are vulnerable after losing the league final and to Cork, I fancy Westmeath to win by 7 points

You could see Breen and McCormack rotating with him. Barry will hardly start at 4?
Is John Mcgrath injured?

Strange that his not starting heard nothing that he was injured or anything.
Hamill at last with a chance to prove after being a great minor.
I've never seen Barry at corner back he lacks pace for that position in my view I could be wrong but Hamill has played 4 and 5 before.

Saw this post, then for a laugh I had a look at Paddy Power to see what odds you'd actually get on Westmeath -6. The closest you can get is Westmeath+16, which is still 5/1!

I'd say every second fixture in West Cork has at least 5 John Murphys involved on both teams.

the westmeath manager will be gone either way after this season
clubs in westmeath are fed up of the poor mouth routine

some players in westmeath won't give the commitment as they don't think the setup is good enough

Bit strange to hear that Michael Ryan was always good at preparing teams. In my view his done well with Westmeath but they really shud be in 1B of the league playing at that level to improve.

As I suggested...good to see the Westmeath men come out and say they want to play in Semple against tipp. Makes sense and disproves the rubbish talked here

Just saw last night that the Westmeath chairman has been in the position since 2013. If the Westmeath County Board have good corporate governance practices in place he will step down at the end of the year. 5 years in the position is a year or two too long.

Was that the same Westmeath chairman who got involved in the Brian Cody-Barry Kelly row a few years ago, when it really was none of his concern?

The Tipp county board have absolutely zero obligation to cede home advantage, their first, last and only obligation is to their own players. If I was a Tipp player I would not be happy if my own county board was sending me halfway up the country to play a match which we were entitled to play at home, just for some pointless "goodwill" gesture. I'd be thinking "whose side are you on?"

Maybe, maybe not. That's their U21 manager who said that. He's not involved with the senior setup. Also, if they get a trouncing we'll see how great the experience is for the Westmeath players.
