It is more than a chip on your shoulder. Unbelievable for one poster to only post when whining about Dublin. .... Think you can get tablets for this affliction you know...! I think a dear John letter would be a better avenue for you to be honest. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3736 - 29/06/2017 22:55:01 2007747 Link 1 |
Leinster championship is probably better off but I think it has been detrimental to the improvement of Laois, Carlow, Westmeath and Offaly. I don't like the way Galway threatened to go to Munster. I don't think they should get games in Galway. It is the Leinster championship after all. I think the Leinster council have done their best for Galway, holding the majority of their matches in Tullamore.

That's ridiculous, the Hill/Nally holds roughly 12000. You look at every All-Ireland Semi Final this August and tell me if there is only a few hundred in it. The lowest number in the hill on any day would be 2 or 3 thousand. Those 2 or 3 thousand may be loyal supporters who might not have the money to pay for stand tickets so should be afforded the opportunity to stand in the Hill for a cheaper price.

First off... I didn't threaten anything. My county may of so they could be afforded equal opportunities like other counties.. and I don't remember Munster saying they didn't want us. Galway in Leinster has made the Leinster championship more enjoyable and interesting. What do you want, back to the days of Kilkenny winning every year by 20 or 25 points? My county is going to feed that hand a ot of money this Sunday by bringing 25000 paying customers to Croke Park.

Because they open it for all ireland semi finals and only get few hundred on the hill yet 50-60 thousand in the stand, so it ends up costing them money to open it with the staff that needs to be paid and security that do stewarding inside and outisde the hill MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13718 - 30/06/2017 08:00:55 2007797 Link 0 |
I would definitely prefer to be on the Hill this Sunday if the option was there to take a Hill ticket. garlicbread (Galway) - Posts: 17 - 30/06/2017 10:00:55 2007834 Link 0 |
I think you're being overly optimistic in predicting that 25,000 Galway fans will be in Croke Park for the Leinster final. There was just over 29,000 at last years final and Galway don't have a great tradition for attendance. I'd largely agree with the principles of your other points but think you're way off if you think Galway's inclusion in the Leinster championship has made any significant difference to Croke Park coffers. Maybe not 25000 but 20000 yes. The final last year was Kilkenny V Galway. You saying Galway dont have a great tradition of attendance is saying the majority of that crowd was Kilkenny? No way, we all know Kilkenny don't travel until September, so out of that 29000 last year, 17 or 18000 were Galway. It could be seen in the crowd on that day.

You would sweat it was me running the ground haha I'm only telling you the gaa reason behind it. It costs them to open as they don't get the numbers. hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 30/06/2017 15:43:50 2008021 Link 0 |
We'll have to agree to disagree on this one as it's nigh on impossible to prove definitively either way. I just don't think Galway will have anything near 70% of the attendees on Sunday. Historically, before the Leinster final stage, games involving Galway typically have 5 or 6 thousand in attendance. If the fans are split evenly for those games (which I'd say is unlikely given that the Leinster teams will typically have a much shorter travel distance and there is an appeal to the neutral fan too), you're saying that Galway support increases by a factor of 6 or 7 between the earlier rounds and the finals? I can't see this happening at all. Even for last year's final, of the 29,000 can we say conservatively 10% were neutral fans? Can we also say that 10% were supporters of the Dublin and Wexford minor teams? Would a further 10% be corporate guests? If that's the case and Galway brought 17-18 thousand supporters, then only about a maximum of 2 or 3 thousand Kilkenny supporters were there, which doesn't seem likely.
