Well done to Baltinglass on beating Éire Óg in today's football quarter final replay. They deserved it based on the second half. However, it really beggars belief that Éire Óg had to had to play their senior hurling semi final yesterday and the football quarter final today. They had three players starting for both the hurlers and the footballers and several on both panels. I've heard the Éire Óg players are considering not making themselves available for county teams next season as a response. I guess it will be the same situation next weekend as I understand that the Rathnew v Baltinglass football semi-final is due for the Saturday and the county hurling final on the Sunday. Be very interesting to see do the county board insist on rathnew playing on Saturday. If they call it off what does that say to Eire Og? Can't have one rule for one and a different for everyone else. The O'Brien fella from Annacurra was forced to play 2 championship games in the one day a few weeks back.. With regard to the Eire Og situation, they had hurling last week, this week and potentially next week if they won on Saturday. The football replay had to be played at some stage and they couldn't rely on Eire Og not being involved next week when the fixture was set. If they decided that the football and hurling couldn't be on the same weekend then the replay might have ended up on October 8th, a month after the drawn game. I think people are seeing conspiracies where there are none. Unfortunately Eire og drew in both codes and were forced to play both days. The blame for this shambles lies squarely with the people who voted to defer the start of the championship for four weeks earlier this year. I believe the fixtures man was not involved in this decision due to ill health at the time. I'd be interested to know what way the Eire og delegates voted that night?!!!!!! There's nothing nonsense about it. The senior men's final is always the 1st or 2nd weekend of oct, never the 3rd unless you're facilitating a certain club.
