Kildare V Meath

Replying To mhunicean_abu:  "Should be a hum dinger. I can see it being tactical for a while. Graham Reilly (some player) will have a L Keegan job done on him by O Lyons probably, but the McEntee's are clever enough to work around that. On the basis that Meath went behind in the second half and how well they responded immediately yesterday. I would fancy them by the odd score. Who ever loses should have a long Summer though, a good hard tight game will do both of them good."
Whoever loses could draw Galway/Mayo or Donegal/Tyrone away and their summer will be over before it begins.

I agree Ziggy but to say "who ever loses will still have a long summer" is not right cause you never know what draw you can get. Meath have got some shocking draws the last few years , a week after being bet in Leinster two years in a row you got Tyrone and Derry away I think? Anyway like everyone else really looking forward to this game and fair play for putting it on in Tullamore.

Totally agree, plus I think Galway fear us more than most.

btw do losing finalists get a 2 week break? 6 day turnaround after losing a final is harsh.

Fair play to the GAA for putting this in Tullamore one of the best grounds in the country. 20,000 packed in , two teams going hell for leather , this will be epic

Meath are a different animal now since we played them in league and maybe the fittest team in the country now. We are also down mccormack and neil flynn who did so much damage that day. On a plus for us i think we have edge at midfield and the backs to frustrate Meath, and we are really playing as a team 1 to 15

And fitness has undoubtedly been there issue for years. If Kildare stop Reilly there's no question who will win. I'd love to see his scoring average over the last few years.

Unlike other years I think we are not as reliant on Graham Reilly as we were, we now have lenihane, McMahon and O'Sullivan to take up the scores if biggie is double marked etc, no doubting he us a phenomenal player, but others can take up if needed. That been said graham will hopefully be recognized this year for the all star that he so richly deserves, we all know he should have one from 10 but other events insured he could not get one. This year I hope that is rectified.
As for scores over last year league and championship graham either scored or contributed (by been fouled and free scored, or as last person to pass before score) 45% of Meath entire score over the season. I dont know this years as yet, but 14 points in last 2 games he scored all from.play.

If I was forced to make a call I would probably say Kildare are favorites based on while both teams look like having made improvements I think we have more question marks over us.
You performed well in the league until you gained promotion and continued on in championship opener.
You beat us easily in Navan in league (we appear to have improved a lot since then but we wont know for sure till we play you again)
We have question marks over our defense, we need to tighten up.
We now have great pace in our team but may lack enough big men.

Can't wait for this one, there is a bit more excitement around Meath at the minute, also I was talking to a few lads from Kildare and they said that they're feeling the same way about their own county.

Without getting carried away, I think it's reasonable to say that both teams have improved this year, Kildare are probably ahead in their development and that could give them an edge. But this game offers us a great opportunity to see have we made up much ground since the league, Kildare came to Navan and gave us a hiding, there should be no more motivation needed for us going into this game. Kildare will be surely be anxious to make the Leinster final, hard to believe they haven't been there since 2009 and they will probably fancy their chances against Meath.

Either way however wins this game has to bust a gut against Dublin in the Leinster final (no offence to Westmeath or Offaly, but it's inevitable that they will be there) and try to close the gap. Meath v Kikdare becomes meaningless if the winners get thumped and let Dublin roll over them.

Not a whole lot between the sides, however Kildare look a bit better in defence. Dont think either team will run up such big scores next time out. Draw after 70 mins may be a good bet
